Brian Williams - Who is Behind the Witchhunt?

There has been a very nasty witch-hunt like scandal regarding Brian Williams and a story he has told about being in a chopper in Iraq in 2003 that suffered RPG fire and had to make an emergency landing, while he was covering a story. People have accused him of lieing, saying he was not on the plane that took the RPG fire. What Brian actually said in the interview was that the plane in front of his and his took RPG and enemy fire. He did note even say his plane took the RPG fire, they just assumed that is what he meant. The NY Post said that Tom Brokaw thought he should be fired, but Brokaw issued a statement to Huffington Post saying that was not true. "I have neither demanded nor suggested Brian be fired," Brokaw said in an email to The Huffington Post. "His future is up to Brian and NBC News executives."http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/02/06/tom-brokaw-brian-wiliams_n_6630536.html?1423238572 I saw Brian on a late night talk show where he explained that he was in the chopper behind the one that took RPG fire, the plane he was in did take enemy fire Kalishnakov, while 100 feet off the ground and had to do an emergency landing along with the other chopper. Now they are also questioning his reporting during Katrina, because the area of New Orleans he was in they do not think the water was high enough for him to have seen the floating bodies go by first hand. If somebody is trying to take Brian down, shame on them. He is a good reporter. The plane he was in WAS hit by enemy fire, it just was not RPG, it was Kalishnakov fire, and that makes it no less dangerous. If they hit the gas tank the plane could have exploded. He was in unanticipated danger. Whose behind the witchhunt to call Brian's credibility into question? [Edited on 2/7/2015 by gina]

I agree it is very different based what little I have seen of both...O'Reilly comes across as a complete prick with an agenda that he keeps hammering home all the time. Can't say that about Williams. But for this discussion, I am just going by what FOX tell us O'Reilly's show is intended to be. Given that the description of the show and the actual show bear very little resemblance to each other, I guess FOX is lying about the kind of show O'Reilly hosts, which is not a surprise.

Still waiting for examples of FOX News anchors incorporating lies into their newscast. Newscasts, not editorial programming. I'll even settle for one time occurrences, not lies that were told repeatedly for years afterward.

One example?

Who the source is does not matter. Is the information true or false? You are too scared or too dumb to research it. So far, all we get from you are cut and pastes and talking points. You haven't the wit to engage in any meaningful discussion. You are out of your depth when critical thinking is required. The irony is that you attack the education of others. How’d you like to be a fly on the wall at NBC News right now?

Curiously on the same day that NBC News put Brian Williams, their senior anchor on a 6 month “suspension”, Comedy Central announced the Jon Stewart was leaving The Daily Show at the end of the year.

After Tim Russert passed away, NBC news tried David Gregory as host of Meet The Press but their chief White House reporter couldn’t get the job done. Next they inserted Chuck Todd but Meet The Press’s rating are still poor and the writing is on the wall for Todd.

Jon Stewart was considered by NBC News for the Meet The Press host job when Tim Russert passed away.
With the self-inflicted demise of Brian Williams, NBC News is in a real pickle as they have a weak bench and two jobs to fill.

Couple that with NBC News moving away from hard news and towards “info-tainment”, Jon Stewart may have a chair waiting for him.

ABC News is also having ratings problems. After having to fire Diane Sawyer the replacement news anchors have had difficulties and the death knell of bad ratings.

Credibility and content brings ratings and the most important factor: advertising revenue.

At least it is a good time of year to make changes.

Your claim is total BS and you know it. Politifact is funded by nonpartisan foundations and is nonpartisan. They fact check all the major networks and report them on their site they don't single out Fox News.

Instead of lying about the facts you refuse to accept why not try to dispute the points where they expose Fox News for being non truthful? if you think they are trying to make Fox look bad please expose where they are making stuff up about Fox instead of making a blanket claim you can't defend.

Iraq did have WMD's and still does, they have been using Chlorine gas on the Islamic State fighters in Mosul, and the did find other similar weapons after Saddam was deposed. They just couldn't tell you because the US supplied it to Iraq. We installed Saddam, which is why Bush told him 'you've got 3 days then we are coming after you' at which point Saddam went and withdrew 900 million dollars from the Central Bank and went on the lam. Maybe the local news here did not report on that, but remember they are beholden to the Council on Foreign Relations, which is part of the military industrial complex, ruling elite people.
