American Sniper Profits and Questions

https://www.yahoo.com/movies/american-sniper-chris-kyles-widow-at-center-of-111390083907.html
"When he was alive, Chris Kyle told friends and business associates that he viewed any profits from his memoir American Sniper as “blood money.”
" In fact, just days before he was killed (and less than a week after the official publication of American Sniper), Kyle donated about $56,000 to the Lee and Job families as well as to a charity supporting veterans. "
[but they never received anything from Kyle's widow, even though he had verbally promised them?]
"Taya responded strongly in a court filing that she owed no such obligation and was in possession of an undisclosed document that made clear her husband’s plan"
[but has not provided anyone with the document].
"She maintained that another adviser had drafted a written document that spelled out “his wishes as to the distribution of profits after his death,”
[has not provided that document to anyone either]
Laura Zwicker, a Los Angeles attorney who specializes in trusts and estates, says that in the absence of a binding contract like a will, the Lee and Job families would have “no claim.” But, continues Zwicker, “Whether [Taya] has a moral obligation is a whole different story. Legally, all of the assets of the estate, including his intellectual property, would pass to [Taya] as his beneficiary.”
"Yet today, with more than $6 million banked from the American Sniper franchise (boosted by the sale of more than 2 million books) and millions more on the way as the Warner Bros. film nears $400 million worldwide, a quiet dispute festers over who is entitled to that windfall. At the center of the discord is Kyle’s widow, Taya, 40, who is alleged to have ignored her late husband’s wishes and withheld money from the bereaved families he publicly had promised to support. "
"After Kyle’s death, Taya sought access to the records of Craft. She said in her suit that her husband owned 85 percent and alleged the partners were mishandling company funds. "
"The Craft partners responded that the agreement they made with her husband specifically “excludes” his wife (and the wives of other partners). In a legal filing, the partners wrote: “Chris Kyle insisted that such a provision be inserted due to the discord in his marriage and his belief that divorce was a very real possibility. In the event of divorce or his death, Chris did not want Taya to have any involvement in Craft aside from being cashed out at fair market value.” To that end, the Craft partners hired an independent accountant who offered Taya $12,500 for her husband’s stake, which she refused."
"Taya also demanded that Craft give her the right to use her husband’s name and image and the use of a company logo he had helped design. The partners responded that Taya knew her demands would leave Craft’s ability to stay in business “severely hampered.”
"In February 2014, Craft filed for bankruptcy protection and the partners lost their investments, but Taya claimed it was done in bad faith to wipe out the estate’s equity interest."
"She received no money from Craft, but Bass agreed to let her continue to live in the home until Oct. 30, after which she can buy the house for $314,612 or pay rent to remain."
REMARKS: With all the money generated by his Frog foundation, the movie, the book, etc. why is there a debate about if the commitments he verbally made are not being honored? A man's word is his honor. More interestingly is that he allegedly had a clause put into The Craft excluding the wives of the partners of The Craft, and if he is not the one who wanted the clause put in, he agreed to it with the other partners.
What a mess, so when you go to see the film now you have to wonder where the profits will go?
She should honor the commitments he has already made, pay off whatever has to be paid off, then look at what is left and rebuild her life. Moving to a less expensive home may be a good thing. Not an easy thing to do while grieving.

The profits go to the same people and corporations as every Hollywood movie.
American Sniper is the story of a Great American Hero.
The liberals hate it mostly because they have never worn a uniform and defended their nation.
While they enjoy the freedoms and privileged life they hate the people that provide it.
But it is easy to criticize something they don’t understand; like taking orders.

I consider myself liberal and I don't think that way at all.
Your own hatred of liberals seems to have made you an expert on the subject?

For Pete's sake dude your response has absolutely NOTHING to do with the issues that were raised in the article.
To the point of the article, I would side with the widow until facts show show some reason to think differently.

I do not hate liberals.
Hate is the mindset of many liberals.

I agree. Show some decency and give her some peace and healing time.

I certainly don't feel that way. I grew up in a military family. My neighbors are military families. My wife grew up in a military family. My Pops was a disabled combat vet who eventually died from those disabilities.
You got some nerve Muleman.

The vilification of this man, Chris Kyle, and the movie itself are emanating from the Left not the Right.
Just wanted to throw that out there.

It is emanating from people who have read about this guy and changed their minds about whether he was a hero or not. That comes from people who can think and decide for themselves. Are all of the thinkers on the left?

So ALL of the left vilifies Mr. Kyle?, you are nuts.

Sickening.

Thanks. His words, not mine.

You are out of line. I said I didn't know you were black. I posted the history of the where the 40 acres and a mule is derived. There was nothing racist in my post. I'm not a racist. Just because you are African American doesn't mean you can apply your warped logic to an innocuous sentence and call a person a racist.
Nor can you willy nilly determine who is or is not a Patriot. Your invectives are uncalled for and unwarranted. It is obvious you lack the spirit, the perseverance, the good will and mental resources needed to help move this country or any of these conversations forward.
I pity you.

Agreed.
I don't consider myself a liberal but since I'm not far right enough for most conservatives, I still get labeled as such. People like muleman and his ilk have so much hate in their hearts for people who don't agree with their views that they never miss an opportunity to hurl the insults, as his posts in this thread have clearly demonstrated. And for whatever it is worth alloak, we disagree and debate and it can even get heated at times, but I am not talking about you and I don't lump you in with muleman at all.

I think you just said what many of us think about Mule. It has gotten to the point that I can't even bother responding to his hate filled rants anymore. There is no such thing as an intelligent conversation with him as he will just come back with raging insults when you disagree with him or prove him wrong. Such a waste of energy being in such a hateful rage every day.
Back on topic people should just mind their own business about what his wife wants to do with the profits from the book/movie. She just lost her husband and has to provide for her family.

Of course his wife can do what she wants to. My thought is that even though he did not sign an official agreement, he told those family he would provide for them, and she has not. People have to honor their commitments, and anyone handling someone's estate should try to do with it what the deceased person was trying to do, wanted to do. I was surprised that until now, according to these reports that had not been done.
I don't think that she can continue doing all the things he did for all the groups he did it for. She needs time to do her own things that she is interested in. Whichever of his legacies she continues is her way to keep honoring him and the work he did to try to help battle scarred veterans. He was proud of his skills and his service and certainly she will want to keep that going as much as she can.
I don't think there should be a legal versus moral obligation question about what she does. I am also surprised that the situation is that way. If he made a handshake agreement, honoring that would be honoring him because that's how he did things.

Wow. Add a few qualifiers here and there and you've got a real love fest on your hands.

Of course his wife can do what she wants to. My thought is that even though he did not sign an official agreement, he told those family he would provide for them, and she has not.
The situation changed. He was murdered and obviously won't be around to support his family any longer.

Yeah but you don't know what her financial situation is and we don't know the reasons she is doing what she is doing. I think it is unfair to judge her based on half the story.

Exactly. And he is not around to pay off the huge payment to Jesse Ventura and the lawyers involved which obviously has zero blame to her.

I've learned to expect the very worst out of people when it comes to estate inheritance. If you have a family make sure you have a solid will. I've seen far too many family relationships destroyed by the death of a moneyed family member.

Very true, one thing people can do is get life insurance naming specific people as beneficiaries, that gets paid out outside of the will, it does not go thru the court process.
Another thing most people do not know about, which is a tax shelter is called a pre-need account, you can put any amount you want in there, get 9% interest on it. When you die, your funeral expenses come out of that account and the rest can go to who you want it to. You have to do it thru a funeral home. While you are still alive, you can benefit from the interest on the account, you can get loans against the account to use for expenses you may have and like I said it is a tax shelter. Most people don't know about that.
Most people when they hear about estate planning, they think it is just for very wealthy people, but people probably should at least hear what the attorneys know and advise you. Also keep your will with an attorney you trust, not a family friend, because that's where the squabbling comes in. You need a neutral person who will look after YOUR wishes being carried out.

Some of the left's most revered spokes-mouth pieces:
Michael Moore: Kyle is a coward
NBC Foreign Correspondent on air: Kyle is a racist that went over there on killing spree
Bill Maher: Kyle is a murderer
Rosie O’Donnell : Why would Eastwood make a movie glorifying a killer?
Chris Rock: He shot ‘em in the back like a brotha in Ferguson

Actually, Michael Moore said snipers were cowards - he didn't mention Kyle - but you knew that........
