ABC Cancels Tim Allen’s Highly Rated TV Show 2 Months After He Called Out Hysterical Anti-Trump Left

Solid ratings, cant help but think this didnt mesh with the hollywood narrative.
The Friday comedy from 20th Century Fox Television will not be back for a seventh season.
ABC's The Last Man Standing has had his last stand.
The Disney-owned network has canceled the Friday comedy starring Tim Allen after six seasons.
Fridays are hard, but Last Man Standing had triumphed where all other comedies have failed. The multicamera sitcom, an ABC homecoming from Home Improvement star Allen, averaged a 1.7 rating among adults 18-49 and an even more-impressive 8.3 million viewers. (Yes, that means it skews slightly older — but an audience is an audience.) Still, Last Man Standing is getting old. And age in TV costs money.
Another year means a seventh season for the show — and that is often the magic number for renegotiations in broadcast. The fact that it successfully segued into syndication (on CMT) during the 2016-17 season is certainly another feather in its cap, but that does little for ABC. The show is produced and owned by 20th Century Fox Television, which certainly didn't help matters given broadcast networks' increased value on ownership.
Keep track of all the broadcast renewals, cancellations and series pickups with THR's handy scorecard.

Number 1 in its time slot also according to this article:
It was considered the perfect sitcom for the Trump era, hitting ratings highs in its sixth season. But that didn’t save Last Man Standing from a cancellation today.
ABC has opted not to renew the longtime Friday 8 PM anchor for Season 7 despite the fact that the blue-collar sitcom was ABC’s second most watched comedy this season with 8.1 million viewers in Live +7, only behind flagship Modern Family (8,7 million). It was the third most watched ABC scripted series overall behind Grey’s Anatomy and Modern Family.

The Tim Allen-starring multi-camera sitcom often had gone down to the wire on renewals, with ABC and producing studio 20th Century Fox TV wrangling over the series’ license fee. ABC is supposed to cover the cost of the show at this point in its run, and LMS is on the higher end for a multi-camera sitcom because of the marquee salary Allen commands, but 20th TV had agreed to license fee reductions in the past and reportedly were open to another one. This time, there was no negotiating or bargaining, with ABC simply deciding against another season.
With a central character who is a political conservative and devout Christian adhering to traditional American values, the blue-collar comedy appeals to viewers in the Heartland, a constituency that helped elect Donald Trump as president and has been energized post-election as evidenced by the ratings success of new USA drama Shooter.
That was also a swath of America ABC had been looking to reflect better, mostly on the drama side, as the network’s entertainment president Channing Dungey has noted this season.
In its sixth and final season, Last Man Standing averaged a very respectable for any night and especially Friday, 1.2 Live+same day rating in adults 18-49 and 6.4 million viewers, regularly winning its 8-8:30 PM time slot. While most returning shows were down year-to-year 20-30%, LMS was virtually flat, off just by 5% in total viewers and adults 18-49 (L+SD).
The cancelation is a financial hit to 20th TV, which had sold LMS in syndication where the sitcom has been doing very well, a rare off-network ratings success story these days.

i didn't even know he had a show or was back on tv

It was a good show. Conservative dad, daughter dates birkenstock wearing hippie liberal.. Lots of material there and they pulled it off. Not easy to succeed in sitcom family entertainment.

What are you doing, Goob? Are trying to somehow deflect from your failed criminal president?

Never evenue heard of it. From your discription it sounds like All in the Family.

I know, I only started tuning in this year and from the articles its been on Season 6 already.
It really wasn't a show about politics but family life - relationships, death, drama, kids, etc. , with the occasional political joke.

The guy was never funny or much of a talent.
That's a subjective statement. Numbers dont lie.
If you are a liberal in todays world and call someone out, its okay. But if you are conservative, you are nailed to the cross.

I think Tim Allen is funny and have seen this show a time or two, not really my thing though.
I also think it would be very hard to prove this show got cancelled because of his political leanings.
You may think that is the reason, hard to prove.

As far as this guy's show goes, I never even knew he had one. As far as conservative's go, there is a big difference between being a conservative and being a lying, treasonous, criminal, which quite a few in our curren administration seem to be, oh wait I know bad media?............Peace..........joe

The show was on for 6 seasons, which is an eternity for a multi-camera sitcom these days. The studio asked Tim Allen to reduce his massive salary every year. I doubt ABC, of all networks, was doing this out of political agenda since, you know, it was on for 6 years.

That's a subjective statement. Numbers dont lie.
In what context? 8 million viewers out of 140 million adults in 18-49?
The accusation of political motivation is merely implied in the OP.

Wah wah wah, let's play the victim card and blame others. Only a sad and pathetic moron would think this is politically motivated. So sensitive! Get over it already.

Let's not feel too sad for ole Tim, net worth estimated at $80 million.

If you are a liberal in todays world and call someone out, its okay. But if you are conservative, you are nailed to the cross.
Ah, the victim card! It's sooooooooooo hard to be a conservative in this day and age. You're right, Tim Allen was basically nailed to a cross....after a successful 6 year run and tons of money made. Not bad for a convicted cocaine-slinging felon. I'm sure he and Craig T. Nelson are having a good cry together.

That's a subjective statement. Numbers dont lie.

What is a "werd"?

Here are a few possible reasons that the series was cancelled. It was probably a combination of some or all of these reasons.

You don't see me crying on here about Trump, unlike your daily meltdowns about Obama for the past several years. You are the epitome of a weak and insecure imbecile who lives life in fear. Trump doesn't bother me - that clown doesn't even want to be there, lol. He cares more about Alec Baldwin and CNN.

Get a grip for Gods sake. THis iis a thread about a sitcom and you're foaming at the mouth psycho-analyzing and calling people names.

Correction - This is a thread about you trying to play the victim card for Tim Allen, and blaming the left for a TV show being cancelled. You called people "hysterical" in this very thread title, LOL. You are too much. I'm just behaving like you and our President. Remember all your insults towards the left and Obama? I'm glad the President makes this all ok now!
