Watched the Netflix documentary on ZZ Top last night, and was impressed. Very entertaining, with a lot of old footage, along with current interviews of the band members and others.

Man, that Billy G can play! (I know that's not news, but Wow! nonetheless.)

I recommend it and would like to know what others think about it. (I also liked the Billy G and the BFGs go to Cuba special.)

ZZ Top
That little ol’ band from Texas has maintained the same line-up together for just under a half-century, with nobody ever coming or going. Yes, Billy Gibbons made the first ZZ Top single with two different guys, but the Gibbons/Hill/Beard trio has been in place since 1970.
That’s enough to make ZZ Top the longest-running group with an unchanged line-up in the entire history of popular music. There’s got to be magic in those beards.
Year formed: 1969

I loved it.

Living in Houston in the 80s, seeing ZZ Top there was like Springsteen in Jersey.

Usually three or four sold out nights at the Summit.

Had front row seats for the Eliminator tour and my then wife caught the only key chain Billy tossed out that night.

Yes, a really good doc. The songs from Gruene Hall alone are worth the price of admission. Would love to see a release of that whole show.

To this day, the 1976 Worldwide Texas Tour was the best rock show I've ever seen.

I thought it was ok. I loved the parts about the forming of the band and the making of the first two albums. Also thought when they talked about the 3 years off was good.

If you like early ZZ Top, you'll like this doc. They spend a lot of time on the early years. As a matter of fact, they don't cover too much after the MTV Eliminator period.

Me too. Just got Rio Grande Mud on vinyl, need to get first album to complete trilogy I went to high school in Texas and remember in 72 / 73 they had a local Texas following, where much of country was not too aware of them.

Yeah, those first three are the only ZZ's that I own. I do have tracks from their other albums through the years. Some good fun stuff to be had for sure.
