Zappa Plays Zappa @ The Beacon

Just back after a surprisingly fun show from Zappa Plays Zappa. There were moments of all sorts of jazzy funky jams along with some very heavy rock and roll - a good representation of the complexity of Frank Zappa's wide range of music. There were times where they lost me a bit (true of Frank's music in general for me) but mostly these guys just played great. I had not known it before, but Dweezil Zappa can really play the guitar - some of the jams made me think of what he could have done sitting in with the ABB and I think he would have been a really good fit. He brought up Oz Noy to jam on Cosmic Debris and it was fantastic! They also had a tap dancer join a jam as well as a very good Indian guitarist. A good time!

Glad you had a good show Mike. I caught ZPZ in the Blender in NYC 6 or 7 years ago. I'm going to make sure I catch a show next time the play through the area.
