Dickey ... if you or somebody close to you reads HTW and the Forum section -- please play again if you want to. Believe me, there will be an audience for you and we're not talking about saloons and bars. But the most important thing is that you feel like getting up in front of people and playing again. That brings a smile to all of our faces. So, go for it...

PS -- Please make sure the Philadelphia area is on your tour schedule (of course, I had to throw that in...).

Tower theater and Beacon I'm thinking. And re: this tour. Dickey is a somnabitch with a long memory. Packed house at the Beacon is revenge for the last man standing.

For a certain infamous fax. It is no secret that the ABB played better venues after the split. With Butch and Gregg gone I just think that this is part of the motivation for the timing

I have no beef. I always say we got 15 years of 2 1/2 hr shows that the original lineup. Would never had been able to match. That lineup would have played 75 min at westbury

But re Dickey I think it bothered him a tad more

Excuse me for posting on this subject again, but I forgot something important -- Dickey is obviously gauging interest from the fans and whether they would support him if he does decide to tour again. Members of the ABB extended family have to make sure he understands that we very much want it to happen and how excited we are at just the possibility of seeing him play live again. So, let's pump it up because we all know how precious time is and how fleeting, and this might never happen again. Pax...

Gonna throw in my .02 here.... Is this for love of the music?...or for the $$?..In this case it would make a difference for me...I've always thought an acoustic show with another famous performer would rock. The two of them would play songs and tell stories, talk to the crowd and laugh. Dickey with Fogerty, Rossington or Gibbons would be spectacular! Two chairs, two guitars and away we go.....I would travel for a show like that....Small halls and history.

If it's just Dickey and a cast of players hitting "Ramblin' Man" and "Jessica"......No thanks!

C' Mon Dickey, just imagine the fun.

Dickey/Richard does not need money.

The Allmans and even Dickey's band are an east coast band and have been for decades.

While I like your idea and think it would have been great had Gregg and Dickey done this when Gregg was still alive, I don't see that tour selling well or doing well today in late 2017.

uh... unless I missed something Dickey is not the "last man" standing.

That being said... I hope to see Dickey at least one more time.

Columbus, Pittsburg, NYC, ATL would be ok by me...

Yes, Dickey/Richard does not need money, but concert promoters, executives who own venues, etc. would love to get as much money as they can from selling tickets to see Dickey Betts.

If Dickey plays any shows, let's hope Peter Shaprio isn't involved at all.

Dickey - Guitars and Vocals
Jack Pearson - Guitars
Oteil - Bass and Vocals
Jaimoe and D. Trucks - Drums
Marc Q. - Percussion
Chuck Leavell - Keys
Jimmy Hall - Harp and Vocals
Randall Bramlett - Sax and Keys
Bonnie and Bekka Bramlett - Vocals

that is an incredible, and expensive, lineup. But I would buy it immediately. And most of them are active musicians with nice paying gigs - I don't see it happening.

I do think that whatever the lineup is, it would need some players that can really push Dickey and also be a draw unto themselves. The second guitarist especially. I hope someone underwrites this and it's not dickey doing this out of pocket.

Now I'm even more excited for tonight! Didn't know they'd add B.O. Jr., Brooklyn Allman, Robert Randolph. Feeling fortunate they picked our neck of the woods to kick off the tour.

"The Devon Allman Project with special guests Duane Betts, Berry Oakley Jr, Alex Orbison, G Love, Brooklyn Allman, Robert Randolph, Bobby Whitlock, Coco Carmel, Samantha Fish, Luther & Cody Dickinson, Jimmy Hall, & Peter Levin to perform on what would have been Gregg Allman's 70th birthday!"

If he isn't sober i will pass.

If he is truly dedicated to putting out the very best music he can, I am on board.

I would love to see him knock this out of the park and then follow it up with an opening slot for the TTB this summer with the Wheels of Soul tour 2018.

The road does not go on forever, he should get it while he can. I am just concerned about the quality of the product.

Someone posted this in another forum as a dream line-up.

Dickey - Guitars and Vocals
Jack Pearson - Guitars
Oteil - Bass and Vocals
Jaimoe and D. Trucks - Drums
Marc Q. - Percussion
Chuck Leavell - Keys
Jimmy Hall - Harp and Vocals
Randall Bramlett - Sax and Keys
Bonnie and Bekka Bramlett - Vocals

Yeah it would be some kind of lineup for sure. Wow, that would be great! Smile

And I know it wouldn't happen given the history but throw in Jimmy Herring if one can dream.

After the ABB wrapped things up, Gregg was back on the road, I always hoped that Gregg and Dickey's path would cross musically - kind of like BigV says, perhaps doing some live acoustic sets with dialogue between the songs. At this point I would probably enjoy the stories as much as the music. Stories we probably know, maybe some we don't, just the opportunity to hear a musician of this significance speak to and play and sing the songs that both of us love.

Should he choose to play some shows, whatever the format, I would do my best to attend.

So what were the 10 cities people replied on?

It would sure be great to see Mr. Betts up there playing music again. I think he is worthy of one of those Don Was tribute shows. That dream line-up would be a great core band! I'm sure Dickey has inspired artists varying in style from bluegrass to country to jazz and blues who would all stand up and play for him!

Mmmm...In the words of Arte Johnson from Laugh-In; Verrrrry Interesting....

My next thought is by no means meant as a slam to the last version of GS, but if he does come back I really hope it's done right with some of the current "young lions" like the Trucks brothers, guys from Widespread or Devon, or guys who will draw and really light a fire under his ass and elevate him. Present it like a career tribute with special guest performers, people he has influenced. Would hope its more than a bar/club tour with the last version of GS. IMO, I don't think they ever lit his music up and played it with the joy and energy it deserves to be played with. They tended to come off more like....Well, a bar band....Feel free to disagree or flame me for that but I for one would really like to see his career/music done justice in a "tribute" kind of way. He deserves it every bit as much as Gregg did. And it should happen while he's still here.

I'd love to see it, and here's my pitch - Dickey with Gov't Mule + Duane Betts and Quinones. Reassemble most of the '87-'88 Dickey Betts Band - but assume he'll probably want 2 drummers and assume Duane will likely go out with him. Mule opens each night, then the expanded band set with Dickey giving you as much as he can and Duane with the Mule to fall back on.

Like others have mentioned , if Dickey were to do this ,he would have to be surround by the right cast of people.

Man, that's exciting!! My initial thought, as others have said...is their needs to be a star-studded band assembled. Have time to rehearse a little n work arrangements out. Chuck as musical director is a no-brained. Bring in Jackie P for Duane stuff. Both of them can help with singing. What would really would be amazing if he got Jaimoe n "Kid Quinones" to support Duane Trucks! Lastly...get BOjr n Set him up w/ The Tractor. Game over. Macon, GA here we come!

I'd personally not cross the street for any GS 'reunion'. Dickey Betts didn't fill halls with GS because he was essentially fronting a bar band. GS sucked; the star and his backing band. Yuck.

If Dickey surrounded himself with good players - mebbe pulling from Jaimoe's band, Gregg's band, then I can see it. Not sure DB has the 1) chops or 2) the mental/emotional health for touring either, let's be real on that one.

Limited dates, nice halls, all star band? Yup.

GS? Stay home. Nothing to see there....
