You heard em here first! echoes of Byrds, CSN, even old folk revival like Kingston Trio, Christy Minstrels, THESE GUYS ARE GREAT! Still workin the chitlin circuit, cafes, high schools, but they should be getting some notice pretty soon...

hear for yourself:

I don't know where the CSN/Byrds comparison comes from. They sound Gothic/New Age to me. Not my personal cup of tea, buy hey, to each their own...........

Sort of a "Crosby" vibe to the overall vocals.

Instrumentation sort of modified bluegrass. I am over the acoustic band having someone kick a drum. At least they aren't wearing old clothes and bad hats. I don't really know what Americana is, the word seems overapplied.

I would like it better if there was an instrumentalist who was a heavier hitter.

I give a solid B+. If they were opening for someone I might stay out of the beer line.

Darlingside just came thru town here, REALLY AMAZING, above pans aside - for the less jaded among you, gotta say if you enjoy stellar vocal layering, ala CSN, Byrds, Beach Boys, America, The Association... you are cheating yourself if you miss this group just now breaking nationwide ! I haven't heard anyone doing this kind of four part harmony, at least this well, since the 60s.

Rolling Stone:

. . . locomotive folk-pop confections so richly executed it's hard to tell if it's one voice or 12. Singing entirely in unison on their new LP, Birds Say (out Friday), they evoke both the likes of Guster and Crosby, Stills & Nash . . .

David Fricke, Rolling Stone:

My latest, favorite 45 was hiding in plain sight, in a stack of singles topped by recent Record Store Day releases. It was also two years old: "Blow the House Down" by Darlingside, a Massachusetts quartet with a rich line in acoustic textures and chamber-rock dynamics. I remembered liking that A-side the first time around. I played it again the other day – then again and again. Its melancholy pull – suggesting the Byrds' choral flow draped over the rustic-Sixties reinvention of the early-Eighties singles by Scotland's Aztec Camera – is now in daily rotation.

They sing a lot in unison but don't own such individually distinctive voices that you get the amazing blend of something like Eagles or CSN. It's interesting in it's own way. I'd love to see them as an opening act. They need a little more swing to define themselves.
