We'll have to agree to disagree on that one.

Happy to see he's standing instead of sitting on a bar stool while doing a show.

I thought this was better.

Better than I expected as well.

I've been to that event before & if I were to have wondered upon this concert I would've stuck around.

That band is great. They're not trying to be a cover ABB band, they got IT in them. Michael's timing on the vocals is what is off in this version of the song. That is all that is wrong.

Michael's voice itself OF COURSE will never be close to what Gregg's sounds like. Gregg's voice is iconic, he's like a male Aretha Franklin when it comes to the blues - he doesn't have her range but that angst, soulfelt misery is a trademark for Gregg and the band. Gregg's cries come from the core of his being, nobody can ever duplicate that. NOBODY. Great singers have their own distinct voice.

Michael's just an honest guy trying to sing what he feels. Having a Father like Gregg, nobody will ever be able to duplicate Gregg's signature growl. So we shouldn't expect that of anyone. The fact that Michael is even trying to sing when he knows he'll be shot down by pretty much everyone when they compare him to Gregg vocally shows great courage. He's got more than an uphill battle doing what he is doing because of Gregg's ability and signature sound. Maybe y'all can consider that, rather than being of the opinion 'oh he doesn't sound like Gregg'. If you were being honest with yourselves can you really say that anyone sounds like Gregg, really sounds like Gregg?

Michael is going to be compared to Gregg because of his last name and almost every video I have seen of him is him doing an ABB song. It already sets the situation up for others to not give him a fair shake because comparison is inevitable.

Michael has to face the same pressures that Devon faces, right? Devon handles it a lot better.

Devon, while certainly his last name has helped him, he hasn't really ridden on the coattails of his last name. He's been original and kept the ABB covers to a minimum. He's tried to establish his talent first.

With Michael in those videos I feel that the band is ok, but the vocals to me sound forced. I'm not sure what his natural voice sounds like because it comes across as if he's trying to emulate his dad's sound. If he is just trying to be a tribute band to his dad, then that's fine. I don't fault him for making money the best way that he can. I just didn't think the performances were that good. It also hurts that the attitude comes across more Skynyrd than ABB.

It's ok if others enjoyed the performance, opinions and ears can vary.

Michael's cocky swagger without the talent to back it up forces me to root against him.

I was able to watch that for all of 1:45

Diplomatically straightforward. Nice
Cool

Gina I think everyone's opinion of Michael Allman around here is colored by Michael not his dad. If I remember correctly the last time Michael Allman was discussed here at HTW he had something to do with a guitar with obviously fake Duane Allman signature that he was passing off as real for profit of some kind. That certainly affects my perception of the man and I'm sure others here haven't forgotten that either.

Nothing compelling about his delivery, he's just got a familiar last name.

It's not that I'm comparing him to Gregg. Name him Ted Fred, hand him a different tune, I'd say the same thing.

That he has some music in him and has also tried to make it off his name is unsurprising x2. He wouldn't get noticed without the Allman connection.

I saw him perform as part of the Allman, Neville, Pitchell Band several months ago. Didn't know anything about Michael, other than his dad is Gregg Allman and that he looks and sounds a lot like him. I mainly went for the Neville/Pitchell connection but I thought Michael Allman was good as a vocalist. He only sang two of his own songs (I would've liked to have heard more) and the show was about 60% ABB covers. He was working the crowd before the show, introducing himself, chatting with people, posing for pictures, and he stayed after the show to do more of the same. Seemed like a decent guy to me.

Here's a video I took of the encore. My camera's memory card ran out of storage space about 3 seconds before the end of "Whipping Post."

Not sure the term "great" should be used in regard to the band either...
