Where did the band name Canned Heat originate?

Enjoying the Ron Wood show on AXS this morning, segment is his interview with producer Mark Ronson.
Wood always has these interesting tidbits of information which is partly what makes him such a great host. He started off the show by playing Canned Heart's Going Up The Country, then went into where they got the name for the band. "There was a blues singer around 1928 named Tommy Johnson. He was such a hard core alcoholic that he used to drink the cans of Sterno which in hotels were placed under food service trays to keep the food warm."
Wow. Gotta wonder how long you live if you are regularly doing that?
