Where are Gregg's New Songs?

Nothing new in the ABB during his last 11 years with the band. Nothing new in his solo band since 1997.
I have to ask: Where are Gregg's new songs?
While nobody expects him to write prolifically anymore, is it possible that he would go on and on and on about his "All Compositions By..." album, in just about every single interview he's given over the last 5 years without actually having a single, solitary new song?
It's mind-boggling to me. He's played in TWO world-class bands for as long as anyone can remember, and yet hasn't played a single new song in 12* years.

To be fair, he did co-write Just Another Rider on his last album. I agree with your overall point. His band has been playing a similar set list since the mid 1990s. There are some new arrangements but its been stagnant for years. For an artist that has surrounded himself with world class musicians, one would think he would be more willing to mix things up a bit. Luckily Mule and TTB bring continue to bring new ideas to the table.

I stand corrected. "Just Another Rider" was co-written by Gregg. So that's ONE song in 12+ years.

I've pointed out before he never said "All Compositions by..." would be newly written songs, just an album of songs written by him. I always assumed it would just be rerecordings with his solo band of older songs that he has written.
His actual writing output that has been released since the mid 70's is lower than you'd think, much less in the last 20 years.

You can't force inspiration.
And you have to take everything he says with a pound of salt.

We all know that Dickey still holds him back from writing new stuff........ 😉

"Where are Gregg's new songs?"
Clearly, you have not been on this site or read an interview with Gregg in the last, say, 15 years.

His entire catalog is amazing -- I still hear new stuff in his later releases like Searchin', LCBlues, the live stuff...I love the way he revisits those old songs -- could give a hoot if he never penned another, he's given everything -- you rock bro. Gregg

I'm glad you said that. I long for some new stuff, too. That said.............Gregg's place is cemented in the pantheon of Blues/Rock greatness.............even if he never releases one more new tune.

The problem is obviously Derek and Warren. If they weren't so focused on their solo careers, I'm sure the Allmans, I mean Gregg, would have an album out by now....
Oh wait, they aren't even in a band with Gregg anymore? So there is officially no way they could be holding Gregg back?
Maybe Gregg has plenty of new songs, but when it comes to playing them in his solo band he is getting resistance from his....employees?
I got nothing.

I got nothing.

Gregg is just not a prolific songwriter. Most musicians that make a living playing music, bring out new music..He seems pretty content on playing midnight rider and melissa over and over. If it works for him, more power to him. Personally if i were in his shoes,it would drive me crazy by the lack of creativity by him. I give a lot of credit to guys such as john mayall, robin trower, neil young who continue to write and record.

I think most of us have come to realize and accept this.
What has been annoying is the repeated deception that he has a whole bunch of songs ready to unleash at the Beacon, or is writing furiously for a new album etc.
Just admit that you don't write any more - it's no big deal!

Liike everyone said, you need to take Gregg's interviews with a grain of salt. Although in a recent interview with Alan Paul, when asked about recording a new album with Gregg, Scott Sharrard said the below, so hopefully there are at least few new songs.

Scott Sharrard: "But Gregg and I have written a couple of tunes and he has a couple in the chamber as well as some great cover ideas."

All of Greggs fans have been waiting for new music from him.. I just don't ever see an "all compositions" ever coming out.. His songwriting has diminished..As you can see from his GAF shows,he sticks with the classics..He had warren by his side for years doing his best to keep things fresh in the ABB set. The guy is still one hell of a singer.. If we wanted to dig deep he had a song called delta blue debut in 2005 at the Beacon that we never heard again, and in Jan he played a song called "My only true friend"??? ..And he did co write a song called just say when.
