I always liked her voice but hasn't toured in a long time and her last studio album was in 2008.

good question. have a cd boot of her from 1988 where she plays her whole first album live. Her first album is classic.

Apparently no one was able to give her a good enough reason?

Many years ago I was walking around Harvard Square with some friends and saw this street musician just singing and playing her heart out. There was a huge crowd. We stopped. I remember an amazing version of Swing Low, Sweet Chariot. We stayed a while (yes, I threw a tip in her case). About a year or 2 later, I was walking by Tower Records in downtown Boston and saw this huge poster in the window - the same person as I saw in Harvard Square, Tracy Chapman. I ran right in and bought her album.
Oddly enough, I never saw her perform after that.

I'm guessing that it would be safe to place her in the category of "One hit wonders".....Not a bad spot, it has happened quite a few times and she would be in good company...
Cool

Which is the one hit? "Fast Car" or "Give Me One Reason"? Looking up her discography, several of her albums were nominated for Grammys.

But hey, not every musician wants to tour, especially if they aren't promoting a new album. According to wikipedia she performs at charity events.

Here she is in 2015 on one of the final episodes of Letterman:

"Give Me One Reason" is such a great groove. I have pulled that one out at a few jam sessions, to the delight of other musicians. It is not a song that I often think of when I think of songs to play with other people, but it is awesome, maybe because it less played than "Before You Accuse Me" or "You Ain't Goin Nowhere" or other easy jam songs.

Great cover by Tracy. Cool

From her Wiki page. Not what I would call a one hit wonder...

"known for her hits "Fast Car" and "Give Me One Reason", along with other singles "Talkin' 'bout a Revolution", "Baby Can I Hold You", "Crossroads", "New Beginning", and "Telling Stories". She is a multi-platinum and four-time Grammy Award–winning artist."
