Whatever happened to the Duane era live boxset?

From a post on the Steve Hoffman forum by frank3si. Anyone heard what is going on with this boxset John L. teased us with last year? Or the 5 man version of the band box?
John Lynskey, chief archivist and historian for the Allman Brothers Band Museum at The Big House, reports the following:
We are working on a live box set with the original lineup, 1969 to 1971. It will present the best version of every song they played live. It will be a true live compilation of the original band’s best work and I think that people are going to absolutely love it. We are curating it through a lot of listening followed by a lot of discussion, The team that Bert Holman has put together includes the sonic mastery of Bill Levenson, who wants things as a producer to sound a certain way. Then you have the historical input that comes from tour manager and photographer Kirk West, Richard Brent, (Executive Director of the Allman Brothers Band Museum) and me. It’s a real give and take. However, sometimes it’s a moot point because there’s only one version of a song available.
After the original lineup compilation is released, we want to go to a five-man band live compilation. The five-man band period, which was pretty short going from November of 1971 to summer of 1972, delivered shows that were out of this world. This is just prior to keyboardist Chuck Leavell joining the band. Just listening to how Gregg, Dickey and Berry came together to fill the unfillable void created by the loss of Duane Allman is just amazing. Betts stepped up, not just in his slide playing. But the guy who filled the biggest gap was Berry Oakley. He was a monster during that period playing lead and bass lines at the same time. It was amazing to see them all work together in their grief to make some amazing music. It’s a very overlooked period in the band’s history. I’ve immensely enjoyed digging deeply into the five-man band period and think that most people will find it as illuminating as I have.

That is a darn good question. Also I remember Galadrielle talking about a special project to mark Duane's 75th birthday. Not sure if that was one and the same project or not.
Crickets...

One of the members on ther Steve Hoffman forum says they contacted John Lynskey and were told the project is on hold. Not sure what that means but us older fans are not getting any younger!
Some vendors are already offering the 1/17 1971 Syria Mosque as a preorder claiming a 10/28/22 release date but nothing on the ABB Merch store or Big House yet?

Thanks Steved, I am going to wait to see if the Big House offers it as I would rather see them get the $$.

Yes I'll order from the big house too. And the three 5 man band shows I saw were played very well. But it was sad. I could see it in the faces of the guys especially Gregg and Berry Oakley. Everyone including the audience were thinking about Duane and the album for the tour, Eat A Peach, was the best selling record they ever had. It was number 4 out of 200 slots and sold over a million copies. Duane is on all but three tracks but miss the money and seeing the band make the top 10.
Fillmore East went to 13. And quickly went gold (500,000 copies) but it went platinum (1 million copies sold) after Eat A Peach.
Hope these releases come out and not be one one package or release that is teased but never sees the daylight.

the syria mosque show has been around for years. i actually have it on disc.
Yup, there are several bootlegs of the Syria Mosque concert which is listenable but I am hoping the official release is a big upgrade
This website does not sell boots but does have sound clips of some releases

That last link to Duane era SB recordings lists Brewer Field House (2/28/71). All I have ever heard from that show is audience recordings of fairly low quality. But it may be THE BEST performance I ever heard. It really is a GREAT show! I'd love to hear a better quality recording if it exists. Or even a good cleaned up copy of the aud.

I don't wanna be a buzz killer nor do i want to go off topic but just the lack of official news regarding ABB related releases like the new archive release from Syria Mosque is exactly what makes me hardly ever visiting this website anymore. It's almost reached the level of being depressing. Hardly any traffic and as said before hardly any news / updates. Wanna find out news about upcoming ABB releases .... well you will find them out here last.
Syria Mosque announced weeks ago. Cover art posted weeks ago. Pre-sale on many sites started weeks ago. But complete radio silence on this website.
Also no announcement on various recent Jack Pearson releases nor a scoop regarding all the different 4LP releases of the Gregg Allman All My Friends concert.
This post is not made to critisise / insult Rowland and staff for all their hard work through the years for keeping this website a float but some more input / scoops from the ABB management (or what is left of it) would be more than welcome and might also trigger some more traffic on HTW.

Posted by: @wayneIt will be hard for them to top Capt Skipper's version of the Syria Mosque show. Hands down one of his better efforts out of all of the shows he did. One of my favorites for sure.
His second remaster was astounding, might as well have been a soundboard the quality is that good!

If this is just some sonically changed copy from an audience source, why? Captain Skipper's work has been in trading circles for years including his second remaster. Are the cupboards that bare? What happened to the supposed Duane video project? Not another word on that. Just sad.

The Skydog box set probably covered it for most folks apparently -
but agreed on both 1/17 & 2/28 of 1971 - the Syria Mosque show was always a good quality boot - always thought it was a SB not an audience tape
if that Brewer Fieldhouse show could ever be improved….great show w/a Dreams 2nd to none, incl 9/19 Stonybrook
Keen to check out the 9/16 remaster posted recently, TY allmanrvegas - Capt Skipper’s CD remaster, Awesome
