I don't follow ANY awards shows these days and was shocked when my wife told me Sturgill Simpson was nominated for Album of the year. Well, he won for country album of the year. I am happy for him and have tried to turn some 'radio country' fans on to him. Must have the bro-country/rural-rap dudes all PO'd. For years I thought I disliked country, but only the garbage pushed out of Nashville.
Great to see him and Jason Isbell get some well earned respect, although it was great catching these guys in small personal venues (ie dives) before they made it big. They are my two favorite active musicians right now.
Great news indeed. One of my fave albums of 2016.
Good for Sturgill and real music.
Here is Sturgill during his 1 and done performance at Avatar Studios in the summer. It was a limited attendance performance sponsored by Sirius XM. Unfortunately he was not feeling well and had to walk off after 1 song.

Just grabbed 2 tickets to see him in September at Radio City. Much bigger venue, but should get more than 1 song!
I like Sturgill, I would love to see him and Mr.Betts on a stage together.
