I'm not brave enough to watch it.

BUT - I did just finally buy Dave's "DLR Band" disc. On the first listen, I cringed because his voice can't hit those high notes but he kept trying, and because many songs sound a lot like the band was consciously aiming for the old VH sound.

NOW, after repeated listenings, I love the disc and may find it to be my favorite post-1984 release from anyone in the VH camp. The guitar is GREAT, so many good riffs. The guitarist is like a cross between Eddie and Jimmy Page, and I mean that in the best way. It's very natural, grooving, fluid guitar. Great riffs. While Dave does sound shot on a few of the opening rockers, kind of like Brian Johnson or Ian Gillan these days, he sounds fine on the rest, and I have learned to deal with him screeching some. It's ballsy rock. Over the top stuff.

The live show is not as bad as what you would think. Give it a shot. The Vegas shows he is solid, and that's all I want from him and need.

You are on point about the DLR band disc. Good stuff. John 5 plays guitar and bass on it along with Terry Kilgore(had been with Dave for a bit) and Ray Luzier on drums, who is best known for playing with Korn. He is a MONSTER on the kit.

@jimsheridan  I had never heard of John 5 until two weeks ago. Was looking over a guitar mag and they had the results of a reader poll and I was surprised John 5 was number 2 right behind Steve Vai. Several of the top 50 axe men were new to me.

Eric Clapton, Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes didn't make the top 10 or 15. Jack Pearson wasn't on it at all.

David Gilmore was number 11.

John 5 has all the licks and riffs as he plays everything here including Z Z Top. But he'll never be as rich and famous as Clapton or Gilmore or EVH. Or as famous as Hendrix. It's probably impossible for a hot electric guitar player to become that rich and famous this day and age.

John 5 playing every style out there.
