Yes that is a clarinet played by Andy Goessling of Railroad Earth. It's incredible how many instruments Andy plays.
How would you categorize that tune? Some kind of jazz, jive shuffle? I love the "walk" the instruments take after the couple beats of silence. It reminds me of music from the 40's. Maybe earlier?
Listening to the bonus disc Warren mentions "continuing with that Dixieland..."
I think that musical break in "Drowning in Self Pity" is Dixieland Music.
