Warren Haynes reunites with Derek Trucks to revive a lost Allman Brothers song

Posted by: @rustyGood news. The article twice refers to GREGG Allman as some sort of celebrated guitar God. I know he was a fine player, but I never think of him as an exceptional guitarist. It's all good, though.
I read it twice and don't see Gregg referred as such, other than referring to Gregg as a "guitarist". Also, you don't have to be a face-melting soloist to be a talented guitarist. Gregg's finger-picking was sublime.

I know it’s won’t  happen, but I still dream of Derek and Warren taking the multitracks of Greggs song Double Cross and finishing it. It’s a great unfinished song and imho the version on Gregg Allman Tour with Talton and Boyer was pretty weak
Â
it deserves a great take

Wayne that’s the one. It’s heartbreaking to hear a track that good where the only thing missing was Dickey’s overdubs.  I can hear Derek driving it with slide and Warren channeling a Dickey Betts type solo. Â
I know it won’t happen, but I can dream

This is terrific news --- thanks for posting!

I hear a Dickey sounding rhythm track on it.Â
I don't know why it wasn't considered for Brothers and Sisters. Gregg had Wasted Words, Come And Go Blues and Early Morning Blues but Early Morning Blues Gregg said needed the lyrics improved. When there was no more time left and the track had to be recorded, Gregg came in and sang the words to Jelly, Jelly and lost one of his writing credits.Â
Queen of Hearts is what broke the camel's back. Gregg was spitting mad when Butch Trucks won the vote and Queen was sacked. That is when Gregg broke into the studio and began work on what became Laid Back.Â
In the 1990's Butch said Gregg was drunk when he showed it to the band and it didn't sound worth anything.Â
Also Gregg was expecting Brothers and Sisters not to sell as well as Eat A peach and hoped his solo album would put sell Brothers and Sisters.Â
Brothers and Sisters sold 7 million copies and is BY FAR the biggest selling Allman Brothers Band album.Â

To get back to the thread's actual topic, it's such good news that the younger Brothers reunited on this disc. I know that the TTB are at the Cap Theater on a Tues & Weds in October and Warren is there two days later - here is hoping for a live reunion.Â
Another hope: a TTB/ Mule double bill as the next "Wheels of Soul."
