Warren Haynes open to playing with Dickey Betts.

Despite my username here on this site I did not conduct this interview.

Of course he is? He owes a lot to the man starting with Pattern Disruptive, a very underrated album if you ask me.

Pattern Disruptive, a very underrated album if you ask me.
Agreed. Very aggressive, too bad the 2nd "Great Southern" album from '78 wasn't this good.

I would take a cue from what Warren said in that " I don't really know how much guitar Dickey is playing these days"
I get the same sense that Dickey really has wound it all down... I do hope the powers that be can somehow put together a Dickey Betts Tribute Show like the one done for Gregg.

I think you have that correct. And this is not new news as Warren has said on repeated occasions that he invited Dickey to xmas jam and such. Frankly I'll bet Dickey is happier that Warren had Duane in for the Mule show for that long than even playing live himself with Warren again.

Well, I wish that Warren or someone else would motivate and assist Dickey in making one last great creation in that way that Gregg made one.
Obviously each person has his own path to walk in life, and it should not be expected that every aging musician should have to make a great end-of-the-road album.
However, I'm loving "Southern Blood" and would also love for Dickey to make another great one. He has already made more great music than most humans do, so he certainly owes us nothing, but selfishly, I'd love to hear more from Mr. Betts.

Yeah me too Jim. I had held out hope that maybe Dickey would've had a guest appearance on Southern Blood being the die hard ABB fan that I am.

It would not surprise me if Brother Betts has several things in the can already.

I think Dickey is fully retired for the past 2.5 years, though I'd love an acoustic thing with Warren.

Yes Dickey is retired since 2014. Not sure he is up to playing again. Dickey said he would like to write something but not if it sounds as if he is trying to write something. If it sounds pushed or contrived then he will not put it out.
Warren confirmed he and Derek tried several times to get Dickey to join them in the Allman Brothers but they just couldn't make it happen. Butch wasn't interested but said if it happened he would do his best to play good behind Dickey even though he (Butch) was done with Dickey. Gregg and Jaimoe were okay with it but Dickey just wouldn't do it. The closest he came to showing up was for the 40th in 2009 and the lifetime achievement Grammy in LA. And this one Dickey wouldn't worry about having to play. But Dickey failed to show and at the Grammys Dickey called Chuck to get his award for him.
Apparently what held up Dickey was getting a call from Gregg. In 2009 he said he would probably go to the Beacon if Gregg called. The ABB manager invited him more than once and Derek and Warren more than once ( invited him several times during the last years of the ABB) but Dickey wouldn't do it. He needed Gregg to call to even consider it.
Gregg and Dickey finally did talk again several times before Gregg's death. They had not spoken to each other for over 15 years. I'm happy they finally got to have those phone calls because they still loved each other like family but family that had fallen out over a personal dispute. According to a good source Dickey was in the process of calling Gregg when he was told Gregg had just died.

It would be great to see a "Dickey & Friends" show recorded for PBS or AXS, Jaimoe, Jerry Douglas, Warren, Derek, Oteil, Chuck, Brian Setzer, Marty Stuart [No F'in kid rock please!]
Better throw Leroy Parnell, Jack Pearson, Duane Betts, Billy Joe Shaver, Willie Nelson & a bunch of others into that mix as well...

My understanding was that Gregg called twice, but maybe he had his manager do it. To be honest I don't really blame him for not showing up regardless of the details. It would have been a very fraught situation for everybody.

I'm happy Dickey and Gregg were on good terms before Gregg passed.
Not only does Dickey Betts march to his own tune.
He composes it, turns the amp to 11, then plays it.
I too would love to see Dickey play some acoustic dates.
But that remains to be seen.
I remember Dickey around1978 playing with Great Southern at the Calderone in Hempstead N.Y.
Dickey comes on stage and says "We didn't come here tonight to tell no lies".
He was correct.

Absolutely -- & the other GS guys besides Duane also -- Andy Aledort, Pedro Arevalo, Frankie Lombardi, Mike Kach, ex-players like David Stoltz etc etc -- stellar musicians one & all
Thank you Dickey for music that all of us for decades & decades have loved -- you're tops bro

I would love to see Dickey release another instrumental.

Fire up Dona Maria, & think of it as one of his new ones 😮 -- there was Never a better song for lengthy improv than Madam Reed, as we all know -- something powerfully shown on Live Bootleg, 30 min of inspired playing by all --
really glad to hear Warren is open to playing w/Dickey good wknd/best wishes to all
