Have a great time, Mike.

I know you will.....remember back in like '08, I think it was, when the Mule came out and did Since I Been Lovin' You? I can still remember it like it was yesterday, standing there with you and Chuck (wharfrat) diggin' Warren just KILLIN' it on that tune.... Grin

Hey brofan, did you go to Helen's Hilton ? If so, we've possibly met and I don't realize it.

Yes, I was there in '06, where I met hotlantatim and hung out with him and also in '08. Didn't stay at the Hilton, though - in '06 I stayed at the Econo Lodge for like $35 a night - not realizing that Helen had ERECTED A TENT JUST FOR ME.....man, did I feel guilty when I found that out. She wasn't too happy about it either, understandably. We both got over it, though Grin

Rained last night, spent most of it drinking from Karen and Lynn's bottomless cooler...

Joe Marcinek was very good - pretty funky - great version of Shakedown Street.
Tribal Seeds were reggae - pretty good.
Bobby Lee Rodgers - always like BLR...

Back to the Hilton for the low country boil - my favorite meal of the year....

Devon - played great, crowd into it
North Mississippi Allstars with Anders Osborne - not what I expected - but good
Dumpstafunk - great light show - played a few of their own, and then did Earth Wind & Fire songs - Shining Star was great....then did War songs - Cisco Kid, The World is a Ghetto, Slipping into Darkness....
I left while they started doing Tower of Power songs. (They called it Earth, War and Power)

Went back to the Hilton, didn't see Soullive......

No rain today, but it was cool - only 60 and a little breeze - felt very cold for some reason...but at least it didn't rain....... Grin

Day 2...

I did not see BIG Something, but those that did said they were good...
Saw half an hour of Jaimoe's Jassszz Band, and they were good as always - last song for me was Blue Sky..

Stanley Clarke Band was pretty cool - he did Pork Pie Hat and a Return to Forever song......
Watched a couple songs from Umphree's McGee, but then it started raining a little - so I went over and caught a couple songs from the Wood Brothers - very enjoyable.

Headed back to the Hilton to recharge.
The weather was nuts - the sun came out a couple times, and it felt like it was 80 degrees - then it would disapper and the cold winds blew thru, and it felt like it dropped 15 degrees.... I ended up putting on jeans and a jacket for the late show.
Billy and the Kids with Eric Krasnos were very good - but it started raining a little again.

Luckily it didn't rain for Mule until the last song. None of the rain was heavy, just a light annoyance...
Mule played a lot of their old stuff - Bad Little Doggy, Blind Man, Thorazine Shuffle, Painted Silver Light, etc. The highlight of course was Jack Pearson coming out and playing Can't You See....... he and Warren tore it p on guitar.....

Back to the Hilton to rest up during Panic.....

Les Brers was amazing..... Warren sat in for The Same Thing......they played until 2:45 am........great seeing Jack play ABB stuff again, especially Dreams.....

Off for Day 3 adventures....... Grin

Man that Les Brers show sounds like it was a real treat. Wish I could have made it, it's the first one I have missed in 7 years. Have a drink for me Sang!

Thank you for the updates Sang! I'm getting occasional messages and late night phone calls from folks I know who are also enjoying the festival.

Your reports help me feel included.

Thanks again!

Day 3........

Slept a little later, since Les Brers ended so late last night.

Missed Bruce Hornsby, but did hear The Way it Is from the campsite.

The plan was to see Hot Tuna, but I decided to check out a song or 2 from Oteil & Friends.....and stayed an hour. What a great band, with a great soul singer - and were they funky......one of the highlights for me. Butch was on the side of the stage really getting into it.....

Saw the last couple Hot Tuna songs

Then it was Warren with Ashes and Dust - very enjoyable, with a bunch of Allman Brothers songs thrown in. Lee got his second concert call with a different version of Soulshine (first was Mule playing Rocking Horse).

Then it was Gregg & Friends - Warren sat in on Dreams. Gregg's voice was strong... I left to go see Melvin Seals and the Jerry Garcia Band - they had Carl Denson sit in on sax and flute - very cool. Heard that Gregg ended with Southbound with Warren and Jack Pearson sitting in.

That was pretty much it for me - stayed for a couple of Panic songs before heading back to Helen's Hilton for a few more beers and jello shots and then goodbyes. Didn't check out the Umphree's midnight set, but still didn't get out of the park until close to 2...

Cool thing was we had a visit last night from Junior Mack, and tonight Jack Pearson stopped by the Hilton..... just too much fun.....

Always sad when it ends..... about 5 hours sleep tonight, and then on the road back to Chicago.....

It was another fantastic Wanee. It is still the best ticket of the year. The MVP of the weekend was Jack Pearson for sure, great to get to hear him play since he doesn't get up to my neck of the woods in NYC much at all. Great to see so many face that I would usually see in NYC in March.

Already looking forward to next year!

The light show at the Mushroom Stage at night is definitely something that is very cool and an upgrade from early years, though the Mushroom ampitheatre was already one of the coolest venues I've ever visited.

Overall, Wanee was tremendous this year. I saw almost entire sets from Gregg, Wood Brothers, Oteil & Friends, Les Bres, Bill & The Kids, Jaimoe's Jassz Band, Warren & Ashes Dust Band. They all exceeded expectations.

I saw partial sets from Widespead (2X), Govt Mule, Devon Allman, Dumpstafunk, Nigel Hall and Bruce Hornsby. All had really good moments for sure including Mule w/Jack Pearson on Can't You See.

I caught a song each from Stanley Carke, Hot Tuna, and NMA w/Anders Osborne. The Anders set is the one I wish I had seen more of. They sounded superb in their final song.

We had some nice acoustic jams around the Helen Hilton fires, though not as big as previous years. The stage kept pulling people away! The hospitality at the Hilton compound was again second to none.

The vibe was great, with a crowd of about 10,000....so not the oversized crowds of about 5 years ago, but as pictures show, plenty of folks. Food on the grounds was really good. It still very much carries an Allman Brothers vibe considering 7 of them were there. 6 of them got on stage together (Butch, Jaimoe, Jack, Marc, Oteil, Warren) during the Les Bres set and four of them together at one point in Gregg's set (Gregg, Jack, Warren, Marc).

Warren ended his set with Dusk Till Dawn, Soulshine, Instrumental Illness, Blue Sky, Spots of Time & Jessica. Gregg did horn heavy versions of another 8 or so ABB tunes. Les Bres tore though 2 hours of ABB tunes in their 140 minute set. Jaimoe's band gave us a nice Blue Sky too. I figured I heard no less than 4 hours of ABB music performed by ABB alumni.

This was my 10th trip to Wanee after missing last year. If you faded away from the fest when the ABB retired, I definitely suggest returning. It is a special place and festival. I will be back!
