Vocalist You rate highly

Sam Brown

Adelle
Interesting choice, I can't help but wonder how spectacular she would be with a change of musical direction. Horns, B-3, Ray Charles, Bobby Blue Bland etc....

If we're going to rate vocalists on how good they were/are then my top ten are all opera. Luciano Pavarotti was the best voice I ever heard. Sonya Yoncheva, Elina Garanca...the list is a mile long.
My favorite? Nothing more magical than Gregg with an acoustic guitar and a mic.

I agree with most mentioned, but I haven't seen James Taylor or BB King mentioned. I love JT, his vocals off Sweet Baby James, Mud Slide Slim, & That's Why I'm Here are some of my favorite vocal performances on disc.
BB King is on another level, known for his Lucille he has the most heart attack style on his staccato vocal barrage. Hearty with love and angst.
There's a few southern rockers I like current and past. From Elvis to Charlie Starr.

Robin Zander

Curtis Mayfield

Seems most of my favorites are mentioned. Some really good ones, the best. I would also rate these 3 very highly and they are all from the same band.
Terry Kath - I have really come to appreciate his talents of late
Peter Cetera - Good singer, very unique sounding - easy to identify
Robert Lamm - Sometimes hard for me to tell him from Terry Kath but that isn't a bad thing.

Koko Taylor

Etta James

Raul Malo

Highly rate vocalists....let's see....I really enjoy

Donna Jean - I find I listen mostly to the live GD stuff when she was part of the lineup
Phil Lesh - he really developed a soothing baritone in the last couple decades post GD
Dennis DeYoung - Styx - wow
Just a few obvious / universal favorites off the top of my head.

Aretha Franklin
Robert Plant
David Bowie

Hey Tim -
I think it's interesting and surprising that our tastes are somewhat different.
The reason I can't stand Rush is Geddy Lee.
Like Panic but as I've posted before, John Bell's voice gets on my nerves after about a half hour.
Phil Lesh: This is old but a lot of people don't like Phil and I agree.
Dennis DeYoung: He tried to totally change Styx and they said no. Mr. Roboto? That's why he isn't in the band anymore.
Just my opinions.

your opinion on styx is weird as it was dennis deyongs band. how can he try and change his own band? he is out because at one point he was unable to tour around 2000 and lawsuits were filed hence that was the end of him in the band

I will see two of my very favorites on August 19th at The Mountain Winery in Saratoga, CA: Boz Scaggs and Aaron Neville. I hope Boz is doing better, he had some health issues recently which caused him to cancel some shows. I have no details regarding what was going on but I do know it was Doctor's orders to stop performing for awhile.
Boz is back!!

I was just poking the bear with that list. I actually like some of those (except Donna Jean & Phil!), but not my favorites. I just took the least favorites from the other thread. I figured the inclusion of Lesh would make my sarcasm a giveaway!

Didn't know it was his band. I could certainly be wrong but it seemed to me that Tommy Shaw wanted a rock band and Dennis wanted sort of a rock opera thing. No clue about any legalities. Just my opinion but I think they are more popular now touring with other classic rock bands from the 70s. I can't imagine Ted Nugent playing on a stage with Dennis but Ted played here in Chicago with Styx. Damn Yankees songs.

tommy shaw joied the band about 5 years after they started and they had 4 or 5 albums before that. when the band reformed in 1990 shaw was also absent. around 2000 deyoung was having issues with being able to tour and tommy and jame young used that as an opening to force him out

A couple more.
Peter Wolf
Neil Young

Peter Wolf is a good one. About five years ago I saw J Geils for the first time. Sure glad I got to. I had seen Magic Dick but not the whole band.
Chris Robinson opened.
And Neil Young I could listen to singing anything and he can be all over the map.
