From my cable guide:

"Debuting a new collaboration, the singer-songwriter performs alongside an ensemble led by jazz organ maestro Joey DeFrancesco for an exclusive performance of jazz and blues standards, plus selections from the Van Morrison songbook."

I've seen DeFrancesco several times and can only describe him as a heavy duty jazz MONSTER. Let me just say that in my book, this one is NOT to be missed! And the new Morrison/DeFrancesco CD, "You're Driving Me Crazy" is due to arrive in my mailbox on Friday May 4th.

Thoroughly enjoyed this. Van and the band can really swing, DeFrancesco was hitting on all cylinders. Noticed it will be re-broadcast several more times this week.

I just watched it. It's a hard core jazz show and it's interesting to hear what Van can do in that format. I thought it was very good. Van's daughter Shana Morrison is a guest vocalist on quite a few tunes. Joey DeFrancesco as expected goes off frequently on the Hammond and overall this is a sterling jazz combo. DeFrancesco plays a mean trumpet as well and proves it in this show. If you're looking for Van Morrison hits don't bother. I can't say I have a comprehensive Van Morrison collection but the only tune of his I recognized was Moondance which of course fit in perfectly with the heavy jazz theme of the show.

I got the new one from Van/Joey in the mail yesterday, "You're Driving Me Crazy". Amazon has it for only $9.97. Could NOT be more pleased on first listen! Just a really great straight ahead jazz record and a great mellow vibe to start off the weekend. I don't buy everything Van Morrison does but this has got to be one of his best efforts in years. And Joey of course always adds a lot to just about every tune...........a real SWINGING organist..........
