Many films are premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival, including a documentary short about Van Halen's 1984 "Lost Weekend" contest through MTV.

Lost Weekend chronicles the wild ride contest winner Kurt Jefferis and his friend, Tom Winnick, went on partying with Van Halen one fateful weekend in Detroit.

The 14-minute documentary was directed by Bradford Thomason and Brett Whitcomb, best known for the documentary GLOW: The Story of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling.

Lost Weekend will have four separate screenings during the Tribeca Film Festival, however, there's no word yet on when the short will be available to the general public.

Those guys are from a small town outside philly where I grew up. I ran into one of them after that trip and he was telling me how wild it was but wouldn't give many details. I can only imagine how crazy it was. I was so jealous that people I knew won the contest to hang with my favorite band.

I bet that was an experience of a lifetime....The music, the chicks, the drugs....From what I've read, Van Halen in their heyday were the American version of Led Zeppelin with regard to debauchery and craziness while on tour.

Women, drugs, debauchery were the same for virtually all bands and in many cases it was the same women for every band coming through town.

I have seen and been part of insanity.

One duo pairing that matches any tour for insanity was Pantera/Skid Row. Backstage was beyond out of control night after night. Bottles of alcohol everywhere and people snorting shit off of everything. Excess to the maximum.

And you lived to tell about it..Who was the groupie who a few years ago wrote a tell-all book about her life as a groupie and all the musicians she'd slept with over the years? I believe she's arguably the most famous groupie of them all....(although maybe not as her name escapes me at the moment... 😛 )

Thank you.....Interesting Zappa connection. I believe Frank also signed a young Alice Cooper to his label.
