Van Halen Loss Of Control official video

As big as a VH fan that I think I am. 😛 Never new they had a video for this. It makes the Pretty Woman video look like a masterpiece!!
Van Halen - Loss of Control (Official Video)
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

I like it. The way it was shot, choppy and unprofessional, fits the song and title.
I saw the band 3 times back when they were young and Dave was in the band the first time. Eddie was the next level of cutting edge rock guitar after Hendrix. I remember in the late 60's more than once going to a club and seeing a guitar player with a Fender Stratocaster and using the whammy bar the way Jimi dud it. Some would even play Purple Haze or some other Jimi song.
Then when Eddie Van Halen skyrocketed to fame, there was a flood of guitar players in the clubs with a Strat or Ibenez or what have you Strat looking guitar and they were all doing the double tapping.

Love the song.. But the video concept.....uh.... Leave it at that . Not that videos ever really make any sense. 😛
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

When they toured for the album, they opened with this tune. The sound was terrible and it was about halfway thru the song before people figured out what they were playing. It was that era of sound where bands went for loud as opposed to good.
I called the song Out Of Control ever since.

Goddamn does Alex pound the skins in this tune.....And of course on the album this tune is followed by a song that absolutely begs to be used in a Jack Daniels or some other distillery's television commercial....That being of course one my favorite VH tunes "Take Your Whishey Home."
I know the VH brothers hold the reigns pretty tight on the use of their music, at least in past many years, but so much of their catalog seems perfect for television....I do recall they allowed Nissan to use a track years ago for a commercial as I recall EVH mentioning in an interview that all four original members were given Nissan Z's as a gift from the company.

.That being of course one my favorite VH tunes "Take Your Whishey Home."
I will 2nd that.

I saw this on Vhlinks.com about a year ago....Nice to hear this tune played live. John 5 is a hell of a player for sure....And the pale Edgar Winter look doesn't hurt either!... 😛

Yeah John is really good. I hope that album he and DLR gets drop soon.
Corey Taylor did a real good job singing that. I tried to listen to SlipKnot, just not my cup of tea.
Ha! Like the EW reference!!

I agree about Slipnot....Not my cup of tea either. Taylor did a very nice job and I think Michael Anthony got a kick out of playing the tune too. It was sure nice actually hearing his tasty bass lines. Makes me wish for an original Van Halen reunion....Unfortunately Roth could probably never sound even remotely like he did when they recorded this song. He'd fuck up the melody with his first breath and break dance move on a slippery floor...
I'll say it again, this tune in a Jack Daniels commercial shown during Super Bowl 54 is what's needed in this crazy world....And I've just the script for just such a commercial.

the underrated fred coury on drums, nice

Wow! Great performance!! I am seriously impressed. I only Michael Anthony out of this line-up.

Good call on TYWH. That would be perfect for a whisky commercial.
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

I was watching the Daryl's House episode with Sammy Hagar and was surprised to hear that EVH had discussed Daryl Hall joining VH.

I have faint recollection of that, but would have to watch/listen again. Was the discussion about Hall joining the band, or that initial post-DLR idea of having multiple singers sorta like Santana did with Supernatural (20 years ago!!)?

I recall Daryl specifically saying that he had been approached to join VH soon after Roth left. He also mentioned that the brothers were interested in going in a completely new direction than what they had done with Roth.
Sammy, ever the diplomat, said something to the effect that "I could see a Daryl fronted Van Halen." And jokingly something like "Now I don't feel so special."
That was a good episode....I miss that show. It's kind of weird the way it abruptly ended right about the time he built his new restaurant/bar where they filmed only one or two episodes. I'm guessing the show was a casualty of the Palladia Channel/MTV merger buyout thing....
Speaking of good Rock shows, has anyone caught Brian Johnson from AC/DC show on the Access channel? I caught the one with Sting and just saw the episode with Lars Ulrich from Metallica. Both are very good. I like that it's an hour long and they get into the nitty gritty of the music business, history of the guest and his/her band, the old days, etc....Brian Johnson is funny and a very good interviewer in my opinion.
I missed the episode with Nick Mason from Pink Floyd and it too looks good....Hopefully like all things Access, they'll replay the hell out of it.

I wish I could get AXS TV...I just have rabbit ears and Netflix. I did see clips of Brian's show interviewing Robert Plant , looked pretty good.

No it was a straight up - join the band. Pretty sure that Daryl took a look and said "these guys are wasted".
I didn't know that Daryl's House had stopped. I only watch them on Youtube so had no idea. Love the show regardless of guests.
The Billy Gibbons one sounds better than ZZ Top does.

Reports popping up in the media about EVH and throat cancer. Hard to tell what is the truth. Some reports say that he has been getting treatment for years and it is normal.
Other reports have people like Valerie visiting him as he is extremely ill.

Yeah, I have seen that the last few days also. You hear a lot of thing in the media and who knows what is what. Ed Trunk starts to talk about this at the 10:30 mark in the audio below.

Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

A local rock station here in upstate, NY mentioned EVH and throat cancer the other day after playing "I'll Wait" off of 1984...The DJ I'm sure reiterated pretty much what seems to be plastered all over the media world of late.
I too heard the Valerie rumor but hope it's just that, a rumor.....

AXS is a decent channel for some of their original programming and the occasional live concerts they air from time to time. My only complaint is that like pretty much every channel these days they have far too many commercials per broadcast.....
As far as Brian Johnson's show, what is pretty cool is that he seems to have a long standing friendship with the people he's, at least so far anyway, interviewing. As a result the interviews seem more in-depth and interesting to me. Also, he doesn't get into the already well known drama of band politics, break-ups, etc. and seems to instead get into areas of lesser known topics. Not entirely mind you, but he seems to avoid talking about such things too much.
I know it will never happen, but I'd love to see him interview the VH brothers as they go way back to the very early days and so I think it would make for a good interview. As I recall, VH opened for AC/DC way back in the day and I know EVH is a huge AC/DC fan...

Classic rock station in my area after playing Panama said Eddie is battling serious throat cancer and has flown to Germany for treatment at a cancer center there.
A doctor in the US said Eddie's claim that years of holding his special copper and other kinds of metal picks in his mouth when he would play long passages on guitar with his fingers is the cause. The doctor said there is no evidence that habit would cause a cancer. The doctor said the likely cause was Eddie being a heavy cigarette smoker.
I lost two friends to throat cancer. One at 67 and the other at age 57. Both were heavy smokers. Two of my favorite tough guy actors from my kid years, teens and later, Richard Boone and Lee Van Cleef, died at age 63 and 64 of throat cancer. And Rat Pack member Sammy Davis, Jr was 64. Rat Pack leader Frank Sinatra was a life long heavy smoker but made it to 82.
Keith Richards and Dickey Betts must be made or iron. Mid 70's and still smoking. It's interesting that some seem to escape throat and lung cancer from smoking. I'll be 73 in December but quit cigarettes in 1974. I may not be here today if I hadn't.
Hope Eddie beats it. Eddie and Jimi Hendrix probably were the two biggest influences on how hard rock guitar is played than any others.

I would also add that EVH has been using a vaporizer for years now too and even if the oils he's been using aren't tainted, they still are probably made with some sort of solvent that is certainly not helpful to someone who's vaporizing numerous times a day.
Obviously vaporizing is possibly better than actual smoking, but a user is still inhaling nasty carcinogens created when the remaining solvents in the concentrate is cooked....Same goes for cannabis....Even if not tainted, the process used to create the concentrated oil does leave behind nasty chemicals a user ultimately inhales. Chemicals that are ultimately carcinogenic...

Apparently many of the 23 vaping deaths in the US in recent months are coming from black market cartridges and who knows what is in them to produce the various flavors.
And people I see vaping seem to have a lot more smoke coming out of their lungs than cigarette smokers. But it is suppose to be safer. Flavored water vapor with nicotine. No tar to build up in the lungs.
