Wonder what Gary Cherone is up to these days 😛

As bad as VH3 was, I'd love to hear it properly mixed/mastered. Might be polishing a turd, but the sound on that recording was terrible. I'd also love to hear the follow-up to VH3 that they recorded with Cherone, after he had some time to find his spot in the band. Anyway, at least live he wasn't afraid to sing both eras of the band and represent the band's entire history.

Count me in....Would love to hear the follow up as it was rumored to be very much in the vein of early Van Halen but with Cherone's stellar vocal chops. VH3 may have been a turd in some ways, but on the supporting tour the band and Gary were on fire and sounded fantastic from the reviews I read and talking to a friend who saw them at Darien Lake, NY...The songs from VH3 that they played live supposedly sounded much improved.

A case in point is the MTV "Live At the Ten Spot" tv show filmed in Sydney. The songs from that show sounded great in my opinion. Much more alive and full to my ears as compared to the CD....Still have a video cassette of that show that I occasionally pop in the old VCR. That version of "A Year to The Day" still sends chills up my spine. Eddie really, really shines the entire show and you can really get a sense of how important feel and soul are when combined with great technique with regard to guitar virtuosity....

If they plan on continuing to showcase their classic catalog live after this tour I would dump Roth and hire this guy from the band Steel Panther who sings Roth era Van Halen as good live as Roth ever did even doing those unique high pitched Roth screams which is what distinguished his voice. I bet this guy could actually sing some Sammy and Charone material as well. I would never pay what they are asking to see this band with Roth at this stage but if they got a young buck who could sing the songs the way they should be sung I would be in for sure.

the guy from steel panther use to be in a valen tribute band. he also was in l.a. guns in the late 90's and recorded an EP with them. they did some van halen tunes during his time. imo he sings BETTER than roth ever did live

some Cherone for ya:

I myself wouldn't mind another album. ADKOT was awesome, to me, which I still play about 6 - 7 times a year.
As others said, when Roth sings, he can sing.

VH3 is interesting. I don't mind it, but they should let sleeping dogs lie with that one. I thought the follow up was only demos, nothing fully recorded. But others might have other info.

Van Halen 3 could have been a pretty good album. That's one where the artist had too much control. Eddie & Mike Post's production on it is horrible. Also they should have taken "How Many Say I" off the album and kept "That's Why I Love You" on it.

As far as I know the follow up only had a couple of songs somewhat completed and nothing was finished. The songs "Left For Dead" and "Celibate" from Cherone's "Tribe of Judah" album were song titles/ideas that were thrown around for the VH 3 follow up.

you are right. bad production and the key to most of the songs are too high for cherones voice

i think the lyrics for those 2 songs might be the same as what was written for van halen.

I can understand peoples feelings about dumping Roth and etc....but he is...IMHO... ...is a plus when it comes to selling tickets. Dont get me wrong , I think VH still could do well, but this is the "classic" lineup that put them on the map. Like I mentioned before, I am not sure VH, would be as big as a deal now if Sammy,Gary or the guy from the mock metal hair band Steel Panther was in or anyone else. When I think of VH or pull up some of they're tracks 9 out of 10 its the Roth era. It's a brand thing, like the other thread mentioned...sells tix's and makes money.
Van Hagar could sell well , but not like Dave.

I am a HUGE Roth era fan but at this point I wouldn't pay a dime to hear him sound like crap and make a fool of himself especially at the astronomical prices they are charging for this tour. I wouldn't pay those prices unless you could guarantee they were gonna be as good as they were in their prime Roth included. I would pay a reasonable price to see them with the Steel Panther singer though. For me it is about the music and if something ruins the live music then I want no part of it and at this point Roth just ruins it. He just can't hang with the big boys anymore IMO.

PS- The vocals on the new live record absolutely blow!!!!! I don't know how they could even release something like that and attach their name to it. Even the harmonies suck from that show. They could at least have chosen a show where the backing vocals were good.

My mistake, you are right. I forgot about Mike. I was just thinking vocals.
