If I still resided there I possibly would have gone.

I still read Jax news, sounds like Daily's will be (mostly) finished, inspected and open in time for this inaugural show !

Pretty cool that Derek was billed for the 1st show at this place. I know he loves Jax, never felt Jax embraced him, hoping that is changing.

Hope it turns out to be a good venue, they have some pretty decent shows coming up this summer.

As far as outdoor or partial outdoor venues:

Metro Park seemed to have gone a different direction over the years with booking
St Aug Amp just never really caught on with me, plus it was pretty far

I haven't bought tickets yet, myself. I've seen TTB a bunch of times - seeing them in July in Atlanta. I was hoping to use the event as a friend-making venture. I still might go anyway. New venue - wondering if they've even passed final inspections. Looks like TTB gets to pop the cherry on this one. 😮 😛 😉

Super nice interview, thanks for posting that.

Those two are so cool and so Pro-Jacksonville and seem genuinely excited for this venue and their part in it.

I did not know Susan had that connection with the Jaguars, ha - even before she met Derek, too funny.

Here is hoping Jacksonville wakes up and embraces these two.

Seeing TTB or Mule anywhere close to me in NW Montana means Missoula MT or Spokane WA 2 hours or 4 hours away, not too bad. But what I have noticed is that more often than not, they seem to hit every other year or so and in one of the two places mentioned, rarely both. So seeing either is an every other year affair at best.

What I have noticed is a different world than y'all in more civilized locales..... The inland NW has many that haven't seen either Warren or Derek, but have heard about them, or on record have listened. So, unlike y'all, a concert involves many concert attendees who do not know they are about to be life altered. It is great fun on the walk out, post show, seeing and hearing the "holy cr@p that was good", and "man he can play guitar" comments by jaw dropped no longer vestal virgin unenlightened souls who came in from the darkness, but, those who the prophet has shown the light..... ha!

I see TTB in August in MT and man that is a ways off.

Unrelated to TTB but related to the jaw dropping-ness quotient, I remember walking out of a Neil Young concert with another couple, this had to be 90's, Gulf War etc - and all four of us just dumbstruck at what we just witnessed and the first thing that came out of my mouth was, 'young rock bands should be required to see that, to see how it should be done.'

Another interview with some pics of Derek and Susan touring the place still under construction:

Rusty - you should go !

The band, which returns to the stage Saturday after a rare seven-week break, is also known for inviting guests to join in for a tune or two. With the Jacksonville Jazz Festival going on just a few blocks away in the downtown streets, Trucks said there is always a chance of someone sitting in. ““You never know. Between the guys in the band and the people I’ve played with over the years, there are a lot of friends we have in that world. I’ll have to look up that schedule.”

Bit the bullet - pulled the trigger - GOING! Look for an old man with long hair, shorts and a Swampers t-shirt. Say "hey" if you see him! 😉

Enjoy the TTB show.

Love the Swampers. I'm guessing you have, but if you haven't, catch the movie / documentary "Muscle Shoals"...excellent.

The last thing I did before leaving to drive to Jacksonville (1.5 hours from where I live) was to check this thread.

I'm sitting in my seat when a casual fan sits next to me. Casual fan - first show. He saw TTB on Austin City Limit last week and decided to go.

We're chatting idly when out of the blue he says, "that Gregg Allman fellow died today."

I was ... not necessarily surprised but taken aback.

He jumped onto another topic before I just got up and walked away. I walked to the quietest place that I could fan and called my friend David (Goliath), who confirmed the sad news.

I walked back and sat down. The casual fan started chatting aimlessly about music revealing that he had no idea who Derek Trucks even was. I was getting pelted with the, "Derek's dad was in the Allman Brothers" type stuff.

I tried to educate the guy as best as I could while still processing the news he'd just laid on me.

"So, do you think Derek will even play tonight?".

All I could do was turn and stare at him. I might've even considered slugging him for a second.

"Derek and the band are going to come out and kick some major ass", I told him. "The show's going on"

And it did.

Derek, Susan and the entire TTB opened with maybe the tightest version of "Ain't Waistin' Time", that I've ever heard.

Stellar show from start to finish.

Not how I wanted the news broken to me. At the same time - there was no better place that I could have been in physically to hear it. I was in my church - my cathedral.

Rest now, Gregory.
