TTB Beacon Run 2022

Well, the TTB are starting their run at the mecca this week. Their ambitious 4-CD release this summer is their best songwriting & arranging, IMHO, due in large part to new keyboardist / singer Gabe Dixon's abilities. That band is full of musical geniuses, but I think he has the best way with a hook out of them all.Â
I saw them this summer, and they played the whole first "I Am the Moon" disc, 5 songs in a row culminating with the epic instrumental "Pasaquan," plus the rootsy "So Long Saviour" from the second disc as an encore. I am looking forward to seeing more of the new stuff at the Beacon next week.Â
Please post your reports here if you attend any shows! I know the TTB has more of a discussion going on at Facebook on their various pages there than I see here, but this page is just better than FB anyway! 😉

First show is up on Archive

I saw them the first night at Red Rocks this summer and I have to say, the new drummer is also key to the whole thing. My only criticism for years of TTB was that the two drummers sounded like 1 drummer. It wasn't even close to the dual drumming we all know and love here... But now it sounds like 2 drummers and I think it completes it for a perfect blend. I love Kofi and always will, but Gabe is amazing too! Sometimes it sounds like they have a young Billy Joel in the band now with Gabe. So much talent. So many singers. So much sound to play with. They can do anything.

@joe_the_lurker Jaimoe and Butch just accidentally blended together. They say it wasn't planned. Dickey and Berry told Duane they loved all the jazz things Jaimoe did but they felt the band needed a rock drummer to go next to Jaimoe. By the time they got to the big March 26th 1969 jam Butch was the man.Â
I haven't been to New York since the Brothers show. I think I'll go and see TTB while I'm there.Â
I usually enjoy their shows even if some of the songs are different for me.Â
Did you see any of Clapton's shows with Derek? Mr. Trucks pushed Eric. Best playing from him I had seen in awhile.Â
They should do a little tour next year under Eric and Derek. Or Derek and Eric.Â
Hot blues playing here indeed!!!!!Â

went to Friday night show. as usual they killed it. Going back again Friday 🤣Â

Completely agree Jim, I had no qualms with Kofi RIP but Gabe takes them
especially in song writing to a new level. I thought the
first disc was the best of the three i've listened to so far.
I will not be seeing any of the Beacon run but glad to hear the Â
show (Fridays) was outstanding.Â

I wish I was in NYC for some of these shows!  Closest thing to the ABB Beacon runs (to me). Â
TTB is my absolute favorite live band. I think their second album (particularly if you get to count the bonus track Don't Drift Away) is their strongest album. I'd say a really like about 10 total of the new songs from the 4 new releases. Some of it is just too mellow with some odd minor chord / vocal stuff that isn't joyous enough or have enough ummppph! for my tastes. None of it bad. And most of it worked really well live.
That said, 9-10 additional songs to add to their catalogue that I like personally is a great thing.
I don't think any more TTB shows will be possible for me in 2022 but we are fortunate with annual shows in Atlanta....and hopefully I can see more than just shows here in 2023.  Â

I can't say I am huge fan of TTB but I have seen them a couple of times and they put on a good show. The only issue I have with them is now that they are popular ticket prices for the best orchestra seats at the Orpheum Theater here in Boston now go for over $200 a ticket which is too rich for my blood.
I know I can get Balcony or back of the theater orchestra seats for under $100 but as I have gotten older and go to fewer concerts I am spoiled and can't be bothered sitting in the nosebleeds.

I have 1 extra for Orpheum Saturday night. Row Q, seat 1. Face + fees = $76Â
toward the back, on the aisle (not against the wall). In front of Gabe and the horns.Â

Thanks for the offer stormy but I would need two tix for me and the missus. The Friday and Saturday shows are sold out for now but sometimes they drop extra tix closer to the shows so I will keep checking back on TM or look for last minute deals on stubhub.

You will probably get something. If I wasn’t an idiot I would have 2 extras (or none). We will be there Friday and Saturday- LMK if you wind up goingÂ

Will do. The wife travels a lot for business so have to check her schedule. If we go I will let you know and maybe have a cocktail together.

If you want to see the TTB and save a few bucks, join their FB fan page. Demographics being what they are, there is always someone whose babysitter has cancelled and thus has to offer up their tickets.Â
I saw last night (Friday night) at the Beacon - tremendous. Derek was up nicely in the mix and as inventive as ever, if not more so. Not in proper order: "Hear My Dear," "All the Love," "Emmaline," the acoustic "So Long Savior," a really hot Allmans twofer of "DKMW" and "Les Brers," a gorgeous cover of "I Can't Make You Love me" with just Susan and Gabe to end the second set.
"Darling Be Home Soon," "Made up Mind," "Right On Time," Do I Look Worried To You," and epic "Just Won't Burn," a nice D & D twofer of "Bell Bottom" and "WDLGTBSS." incendiary 2nd set closer "I Want More/ Soul Sacrifice."
Encore of "Soul Sweet Song" and "Let's Go Get Stoned."
The Allmans songs were stunning, and the rest was great too! These guys are tight tight tight.Â
