I screwed up again a few months back when they went onsale I grabbed 2 ORCH Row D tix for the Montclair Show on April 6th, I grabbed tix for Blackberry Smoke for April 6th & 7th. I am dedicated to my Youboob channel so I'll be hitting both BS shows. I also saw Mr Trower last year at The Wellmount Theatre. Great Show, It's a tough call as Robin has a new CD out too. I'm a dummy, it's the 3rd time in the last 12 months that a doubled booked.

Saw Trower when it was handy back in the 70s and always enjoyed the show. The band would change a little every few years. Then I didn't see him again until 2012. Boy had he changed. He looked like a granddad. A man up in years. He had a new looking deep cherry red Fender Strat and the guitar solos were just as good and intense.

I don't know where he gets his Strats or how they are set up and the pickups, but Trower has plenty of volume almost like humbuckers and fantastic tone. There is just something about a good sounding Strat that I think I dig more than a Les Paul and I love Les Pauls. But to me 4 out of 5 Strats don't sound like that. SRV had some great sounding Strats. Clapton does. Kenny Wayne Sheppard. Devon Allman has one Gregg owned that really sounds strong. He said Gregg had 42 guitars and he left all of them to Devon. Duane Betts has one of Dickey's custom shop signature Les Paul Goldtops as his number one and Dickey's 1961 ES-335 and 1955 Strat hardtail for certain songs. All three are great sounding instruments.

Making the 2.5 hr drive from Chicago to Grand Rapids, MI. on April 13th to see my favorite living guitar player. Plan on hitting Founders Brewing Co as well. Looking forward to seeing one of the few guitarists that does not lose any of his chops as he ages.
Blackey, Robin plays his own custom shop signature Fender Strats. He had input on the pickups for the model. He had a 50’s reissue put in the neck position, a 60’s reissue in the middle, and a Texas Special in the bridge position (which he says he rarely uses).

Thanks meandean. There is just something about a good sounding Strat and Trower has some great ones.

Been a huge Trower fan since I plugged the Twice Removed 8 -track into my car stereo back in '73. We'll be at the Cleveland show next Thursday.

He's coming to Eugene on 5/15. Should I go? I've seen just about everyone, but never seen Trower. Obviously love his stuff, man I wore out a couple of copies of Twice Removed from Yesterday! But I heard he'd getting older and just wondering what people who've seen him lately think? Thanks.

I saw him perform live a couple of years ago and he still had it. I hadn't seen him since 1980, so it was a long gap between shows, but he sounded just as good as I remembered.

He is a bluesman, most of these guys improve with age. He never relied on youthful rocknroll power. He doesn't play fast or acrobatic. Trower's style is so laid back and he has always been strong and confident - you want to hear a strat really talking, go hear Robin.

Damn, I wish he was coming close to me. Always loved Trower. My first attempts on my old Fender jazz bass back in the day (that wasnt blues) was Day of the Eagle & Too Rolling Stoned. All of these old rockers are starting to hang it up. Once I saw Clapton was making a Xmas album, I knew the old masters were pretty much done. LOL

Well, I decided to go...and I'm glad I did. It was a great show. A local fingerstyle acoustic guitarist, Terry Robb, opened and then it was Robin's band and they played a bunch of hits and a couple of newer songs. Having never seen him, I can't really compare it to other shows, but I knew he'd play the strat through the marshall stacks and although a lot of his stuff sounds similar, it never got boring or stale. I was hoping he'd play my two favorites (I Can't Stand It and Sinner's Song) and didn't get either one, but was surprised at how many I did recognize. I bought some cheap tickets out front right before the show and ended up with great seats at $15 below cost, so I couldn't complain! Glad I finally got to see him.
