Billy Powell - Skynyrd
Chuck Leavell
Bill Payne - Little Feat
Geoffrey Downes - YES [ that whole album Fragile showcased his talent]
Kerry Livgren- Kansas
And yes Pigpen [Ron McKernan] Grateful Dead
Tax DiGregorio - Charlie Daniel's Band - feel bad putting him last because I enjoyed his keyboards but his vocals drove me crazy, loved them soooooo much.
I know I'm one over the limit but you got to have Pigpen in there. Gregg, well yes it's understood he's in there also. But Gregg's was synched to his voice so much that where one ended the other began that is rare in a keyboardist. He really is above all of 'em when you get right down to it. Long live the music of brother Gregg Allman.

Ian Stewart

Well Chuck Leavell, Bill Payne, Gregg Allman, Teddy Wilson, Jerry Lee Lewis, Van Cliburn
But the most impressive piano show I attend because I had a promotional ticket was Libby!! If it had not been free for me I wouldn't have been interested. I learned to try artists outside my comfort zone.
Not only could she play pop, rock, boogie but played several classical compositions.
Here she is playing the popular early 60's song Mack the Knife

List is how one defines the original question. Are we singling out strictly players or players, singers, composers etc.
I have to give the nod to both players/singers/writers etc.
IMO
Elton John stands above the pack if singer/player/composer (wrote the music)
Gregg
Billy Preston
Chuck
Many other great musicians noted who else wrote or sang many of the popular songs?

No order:
McCoy Turner
Oscar Petersonn
Chick Corea
Chuck Leavell
Jimmy Smith
Dave Brubeck

Ray Charles
Otis Spann
Ray Manzarek
Merle Saunders
Ned Lagin
Radu Lupu
Sure didn’t think I’d ever see Ned Lagin on the thread - last time I saw his name was in 1975, when he & Phil Lesh did the ozone out-there Seastones album - it’s good too, probly similar to George’s 1968 Wonderwall Music - got most of it on one side of a 60 min tape, on the other, the transfixing beguiling 28 minute An Index Of Metals, from the Fripp-Eno album Evening Star, also from 1975
for 60 min of ambient relaxing mesmerizing space-age music that never gets old:)
had no idea Ned was a keyboard player

My favorites:
Gregg Allman
Jon Lord
Elton John
Garth Hudson
Chuck L

Ian Stewart and Tony Banks are about as different as can be, but they are 2 of my faves.
Banks is an amazing songwriter/ composer. I do focus on 1970-1977.

IMO they're all covered. Plenty more out there that haven't gotten their notoriety but that's Rock N' Roll.
One name to include is the late McCoy Tyner. I've been enjoying his groove a lot since his recent passing.
One more to add is Holly Bowling. She jams on the piano!

love Keith godchaux. his work with the dead was incredible.

Keith Emerson
Rick Wakeman
Chuck Leavell
Roy Bittan
…..and so many others.

Please don't forget Nicky Hopkins, one of the greatest by far!

Never to be forgotten:
Nicky Hopkins
Chris Stainton
Roy Bittan
Alan Price (early Animals)
Jerry Lee Lewis
Jimmy Smith

Not in order, plus I decided I had to pick seven:
McCoy Tyner
Nina Simone
Stevie Wonder
Kofi Burbridge
Bill Evans
Herbie Hancock
Monk

Lots of good ones mentioned. My favorite is hands down Chuck Leavell (sorry Gregg 😉 ). Check out some of the shows when he toured with Govt Mule. Those are awesome. 2001 maybe?
Billy Powell sure was a great addition to Skynyrd.
If you like Springsteen, Roy Bittan was a good inclusion to the list. You could also add Danny Federici.
Pinetop Perkins was a great piano player. Saw him play a kind of tribute show to Muddy Waters years ago.
Kofi is a good one. I don't know who the guy is that played with the TTB after him but that guy was awesome when I saw them. He might still be in the band, I don't know.

His name is Gabe Dixon, and he's a permanent member now. He plays keys and a few other instruments, and maybe you know this but he also sings their cover of Don't Keep Me Wonderin'.

Depends on when you saw the TTB.
Carey Frank played keyboards for the TTB while Kofi was recovering from his heart attack.
Gabe is with them now and a great player.

I believe this would have been January 2018.
