Doobie Brothers. Dug them before Michael McDonald ruined them

Agreed.

One thing we have learned is that people on here don't like Joe Bonamassa.

I think he's a hell of a player, but his stage persona with that slicked back hair.....

6-10

6) Springsteen
7) Metallica
8) Fleetwood Mac (after Bob Welch)
9) Jimmy Buffet
10) TTB

I agree with both counts. I think he's a great player, but he carries himself in a way that rubs me the wrong way. I do like his music.

Also his endless self-promotion, merchandising and marketing, while I'm sure keeps him raking in the money in an industry that isn't easy to do that, I feel like I get a promotional email for something with his likeness on it every other day.

I can list many more than 5 but here goes...

1. U2 ( Bono drives me nuts.....and needs to get over himself.)
2. Phish
3. J Bonamassa
4. Springsteen ( I grew up near the Jersey shore and was into his music for a while, now it just flat out bores me, a friend of mines brother was his road manager for some time, the champion of the working man is a phoney. My friends brother had to sue the "Boss" over employment issues the matter was settled for an undisclosed amount.
5. Dead

A person with the name "edge" doesn't like U2? I had to giggle at that! Oh, I heard about the Springsteen story and there's two sides to it. The 20 or so people I've run into that met/know Bruce (granted, none worked for him) tell me the exact opposite--that he's the real deal who still drives his kids to public school while someone like Bon Jovi has his kids chauffered to a private school. Just sayin'..

One thing we have learned is that people on here don't like Joe Bonamassa.

Hey, we all CAN agree! 🙂

Lol Amy, well I can see the irony there but I'm older and had the name Edge way before "The Edge".

Yup always 2 sides to a story and on Springsteen, maybe more than 2...... Many friends tell me of positive encounters with him...... I'm a lineman for the electric company and Springsteen lives in the operating territory of the District where I work. I and my crew were given a work order to put power to one of Bruce's properties that was supposedly going to be a recording studio. While I had no direct involvement with him, I have to say that the people under his direction were some of the most condescending, arrogant jerks I have ever dealt with in my 40 years on the job. Generally when people act that way, they are following the lead of their "Boss". As I said, I had no direct dealings with him but has people, were assholes.

Love the early Bruce material; but he has become a scripted musician. The whole "everyman" bit is so orchestrated as is every pose in his show (the guitar always ends up in the exact location it is on one of the albumn covers.) ANd I swear; one day him and Stevie are going to get a little bit too close and f**k on the stage

I don't hate Clapton, I just don't get the pedestal he's been placed on.

I appreciate who The Who are.

Fun thread for a negative topic. Smile

1. Dave Mathews (Music is okay but the vocals are awful).

2. Blues Traveler (See comment above).

3. Umphrey's McGee. They are HUGE in Chicago where I live so they play here a lot. A handful of years ago they played a three night New Year's run at a big theatre here. I bought tickets to the 29th and 30th since NMAS opened one night and Los Lobos the second. The 31st was Taj Mahal as the opener. Went the first two nights and of course the openers were great.

I lasted through three songs of Umphrey's. The first night. It was God awful. Beyond the awful sound and the stench of their fans (i.e. no showers in a month), I had to leave.

I still can't believe those three acts opened.

Oh and I agree with the earlier throw in .moe with them.

4. Tragically Hip. Again, vocals are awful.

5. Rush. Again, see the vocals comment.

I guess I could add Zappa to my list, I like most of his early stuff but then it got way too out there for me.

Can't put Snoop Dog on the list. I love "Gin & Juice" song & video.

Grateful Dead
All the rap and R&B "acts" over-populating the charts (i liked Goldtop's comment: "...where's the freekin melodies and why do you need to use someone elses cool track and phuc it up...")!!!

Agreed

Someone else said something like there is no R or B in R&B

Gotta remember that Clapton isn't the one who put himself there....he has a fan base that placed him on the pedestal....much to his amazement too.... and if you play guitar and grew up when we did you'd probably be influenced by his playing in some way....being if you listened to the Yardbirds....John Mayall...Cream....D&TD or his solo stuff...He's earned the right to be called one of the greats....is he the greatest?....guess it depends on what you like....Jimi thought he was....When signed to his first contract he asked to meet Clapton when he as brought to England....What I don't get is the hate for him....why because a long time ago he decided noodle guitar was nolonger for him....seems to be the argument from most

yep
love him or hate him (or in between), he was THE first guitar virtuoso in rock. His playing may have been inspired by Buddy, the Kings, etc, but he had the audience.

Certainlly Eric didn't paint "Clapton is God" on the subways.

If he never put out another album after 1971, his place in history would be the same - near the top

I have heard it. I don't hate Eric Clapton. I listen to Eric Clapton. I've spunt hours learning basslines to Clapton songs. I just don't get the pedestal, but I do respect the feelings of those that place him there.

These are the kinds of emotions that are going to get stirred up in threads like this, where entire genres and timeperiods consisting of hundreds of artists are dismissed in their entirety...

No emotion just conversing about how he did, in the eyes of some, be considered greatest....I really don't think there's much to "get" even if you don't agree

He is one of the guitar greats and the song Layla alone is a masterpiece...he's also written quite a few great songs and has played quite a few masterful solo's...

Now I don' think anyone is the greatest I have my list that I like....he's on it but I don't really even know who's #1. Duane was my biggest influence but I can't say he's the greatest....because it's art
