Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,
His playing on Billy Cobham's Spectrum album is epic. I have read it inspired Jeff Beck to do his fusion album Blow By Blow.
Another lost talent who died too young.
Tommy was such a monster player. So many styles and genres, he excelled at them all. Revered by other players, witness among other participants Derek & Warren on the Great Gypsy Soul project.
Teaser Deluxe is one of my favorite listens, bar none. Hearing the entire takes on songs that were faded down for the original Teaser release are just amazing. The Grind being a perfect example coming in at twice the length of the version on the original.
Spectrum is an essential listen for any fan of jazz/fusion. Tommy's work on Mind Transplant by Alphonse Mouzon is also superlative. Bolin's "Live at Ebbets Field" fully displays his abilities with a variety of genres.
A tragic loss at such a young age. So fortunate that I was able to hear him play live once.
