Tom Jones with CSNY

I made it about 45 seconds; never got Tom.....

Man ! These guys were on fire! Watch it again BigV! Tom Jones was putting the fire to CSNY's heels! Showin the hippies how it's done! Stills was in open competition for soul-master, just wailing the vox.
Haha, Greg Reeves, on bass, looks like he is pushing 15 on the outside.
Alright!

Is it just me or does so much of CSNY live just sound "messy"?
Like under-rehearsed, no proper arrangement, instrumentation is wrong, vocals are haphazard, too many cooks....

CSN is was of the two or five concerts I have "walked out of"...never got them. Tom Jones? some say he has a great voice, to me?...fingernails on a chalkboard, especially if he is attempting a "rock classic", He may be a good "crooner" but a rock singer he is not.
Just my .02

Yeah I walked out of a CSNY show in the late 90's. Just brutal, the whole Woodstock nostalgia hype. Love them all solo.
Re Tom Jones, ok, I can see how his singing style would crucify you, but you gotta admit the CAT CAN DANCE! :
Tom Jones "Treat Her Right". Hang on until 1:20, he goes apesh*t, haha!

Try this one...

I always loved that clip. Tom was bringing it ! Crosby and Young were whacked out of their minds ! Stills killing it on the organ !

That was great. An unusual pairing at first glance, but they pull it off. Stills on Hammond is always cool. Thanks for sharing.

I have the complete 3 night run of CSN&Y at Fillmore East. I thought their acoustic sets far surpassed the electric sets.

Actually I enjoyed it Big V and thanks for posting. Of course I believe it should be viewed in context. This is obviously from the Tom Jones Show which gave several rock acts exposure on main stream TV which was just 3 channels back then. I recall seeing Janis Joplin on there. It freaked my dad out. Shaving the haphazardness comes from everybody being whacked out. Tripping would be my guess. Croz, Dallas Taylor and Neil looked ripped out of their minds. That they sounded as good as they did is no small feat IMO. And just by looking at Stills, it's no wonder he didn't get the Monkees gig. Lol!

So obviously these guys shouldn't be touring and are way past their prime, we all know it. Why bother posting. There are many other vibrant bands on the scene today that we can talk about. Why bash these hero's of rock. Seems unnecessary.

Neil Young has been tearing it up all over the world this year, blowing everyone away for the last few decades. I saw David Crosby perform solo twice this year, in Portland and Phoenix, bringing new material and at the top of his form. His recent release "Croz" is some of the finest work he has ever done, right up there with "If I Could Only Remember My Name".

when gregg becomes as productive as neil young or even stephen david or graham
the be critical.

I thought it was pretty good considering.
Tom Jones is one of those guys (like Warren Haynes) that when he sings a song, it sounds like he originally did it. Makes it their own. Tom also sounds the same at 76 as he did when he started. Not many rock vocalist can say that.
I preferred the clip with Joplin that Pops42 posted.
As Charlesinator mentioned, Tom was willing to play with the "hippies" and pretty much anyone since. He is the " sit in " master of vocals. Warren and Tom have to do something together sooner or later.
Tom Jones - Hey Jude (The Wilson Pickett arrangement) - All he needs is Duane.
Tom Jones & Jeff Beck - Goin' Down Slow (Audio only and it smokes)
Tom Jones & David Gilmour - Purple Rain
This guy has played with everyone in all genres of music. The list just goes on and on.
