Today in history

Today in history, July 6, 1971, "At Fillmore East" was released. It is arguably the greatest live (double) album ever recorded, thanks to the genius of Tom Dowd.

Yes indeed. The greatest live album. Six young musicians putting their musicianship and influences on display. It has complex passages, delicate passages and also just flat rocks.
Gregg Allman became skeptical Duane's creation was going to make it. But this album put that to rest going GOLD and later Platinum when sales exceeded one million copies.

What would life have been without Live at Fillmore East? Hate to even think about it. Long live the Allman Brothers Band!

Even the cover of the album , front and back, and the pictures inside are great. I have a framed poster of the album cover hanging in my music room, along with their first album, the Atlanta Pop Festival, and a show they did at the Boston Tea party!

This man checks out the BEST VERSION of Elizabeth Reed ever performed by anybody.

Let me guess.......From the Fillmore east?

Well the man said it was excellent and fantastic musicianship.
Do you not agree it's the best version you've heard? Got a version by the band or another band that is better? Then slap in on here. I'd love to hear it. Some of the Chuck/Larmar versions are as sophisticated as this I suppose but the energy isn't.
Well it's a Fillmore East thread but put it on here anyway.
On the Fillmore version there are so many intricate and delicate things I hear from all six musicians and it is a flawless performance from start to finish. Playing all those shows without a vacation from 1969 to March of 1971 really whipped those young men into shape. Playing like seasoned professional musicians with 20 to 30 years experience. It still almost brings a tear to my eye to here s band play at that level. Just sensational.

Well said indeed, one could hear new things for decades afterward on those Fillmore recordings - playing w/that depth/communication/fire, just amazing - those guys left a footprint that couldn’t possibly be filled

Well said blackey. I do not own or have ever heard another show that I would trade for At Fillmore East.
I will say that i love the Fillmore West box set immensely however there is something special on that Fillmore East release.
My all time favorite set of bliss...

jjohnson94 you got that right. That track of Fillmore East smokes. If it doesnt hook a newbie on the Allman Brothers then the Allman Brothers isn't going to work for their tastes.
" An old true story..I must have did somebody wrong...I wonder who?"
Dickey's solo also smokes and Ace on harp too and Butch Trucks on drums is flat laying it down. Rocking Jack rocking.
