Three Dog Night/Brittany Jean @The City Winery, NY 8/6/18

I know Three Dog Night has some dedicated followers that have their favorite singers and songs and the band has had many battles that rival the best of the brawlers with fans siding with their favorites. Both Cory Wells and Chuck Negron have passed on and Danny is carrying on the bands music. I went to this show with an open mind and open ears and had a great night. If you dig the music it is a worthwhile venture. Danny Hutton was joined by Michael Allsup (g), David Morgan (v), Paul Kingery (v/b), Howard Laravea (k), & Paul Bautz (d).
The opener was Brittany Jean a nice young lady with a sweet voice and personality. She joked with the crowd and played a couple classics to go along with her own material. Good times.

Count me as a Three Dog Night fan, only because I'm 63 and can remember when they were churning out the hits in the late 60's/early 70's. I am very pleased to see that they have packaged and re-released their best two records on one disc, "One" and "Suitable For Framing" for a very reasonable $18.99 (link above). If you don't recognize a lot of these tunes you have been living in a cave somewhere for the last 40 or so years. "One", their first record, is an out and out classic IMO. I think they really were one of the great vocal bands of all-time.
Seeing as how they really are down to "One Dog Night" I would not personally bother seeing them but I did listen to Joy To The World and it sounded pretty good. Nice to see that original guitarist Michael Allsup is still on board along with singer Danny Hutton.
I was not aware that Chuck Negron had passed away. He had been kicked out of the band anyway many years ago for his massive substance abuse but he was lead vocalist on most of their hits back in the day. If you can get a hold of a used copy of his biography Three Dog Nightmare is is quite a harrowing tale. Strong ABB connection here: Negron was married for years to Berry Oakley Jr.'s mother Julia. Oakley of course is the son of original ABB bassist Berry Oakley.

Thanks to this thread I just grabbed "One" and "The Milleninum Collection" for my morning commute!

According to Wikipedia, Chuck Negron has NOT passed away! As mentioned he has been out of the band though for many years. Here's a Wikipedia quote regarding his bio:
"He wrote his autobiography, Three Dog Nightmare (1999), in which he attributes his recovery from heroin addiction to his turning to God in desperation, after dropping out from more than 30 drug treatment facilities. A revised version with several new chapters was released in 2018."

Yeah, Chuck is alive and well, and on a concert tour right now. Check out his Facebook page. And in some of the live clips, he still sounds great. He was "the voice" of Three Dog Night for me growing up.

I misread an article and a few vitriolic comments while bouncing around web. Insane commentary below some old videos. Sorry, Long Live Chuck!
