They were locked and loaded in Virginia Beach a couple nights ago. A good solid show. Perhaps the encore was rushed. I imagine it's a pretty arduous trek from VB to Asheville with an early performance scheduled.

It looks like whatever rest they were able to manage really paid off.

It was truly an incendiary and moving moment and the highlight of the jam. Just scorching. Pretty much brought tears of joy to my eyes as well. That youtube does a nice job of letting you see it but no video is going to translate how great that moment was.

Certainly Duane Betts sitting in with Warren on Blue Sky on Dickey's birthday ( ok I know it was technically past midnight at that point ) was another highlight.

Another great jam that at least from me and my buddies perspective could not have gone smoother.

I sure hope Bonnaroo or Lockn or even Mountain Jam puts together and Warren and Derek led superjam. That would be-beyond awesome.

Any explanation why Tom Johnston was not with the Doobie Brothers a the Christmas Jam? The reviews I read didn't mention it at all, but he's not in the youtube videos.

Good question. He was sorely missed in my opinion. John Cowen, bassist did a fine job on vocals. Pat Simmons handled some of Johnston'slead vocals and struggled. And why do the Doobies need 2 drummers? They were both playing the same thing tbe entire set. Less than impressed with the Doobies set.

I thought I read somewhere that Tom Johnston was out of commission for a bit due to medical issues. Here's hoping that all is well with him !
