Lots of discussion about more Brent releases, more 80-83 releases from GD, blah blah blah.

Give me the Pig Pen era and I am satisfied.

For those who enjoy the history of things Dead, check out the fantastic deadessays blog, a place devoted to in-depth study and discussion on the early days of the Dead. Here's the piece on Pigpen:

Some of the essays of individual song studies are quite awesome as well. The one on Viola Lee Blues is a work of historical art. http://deadessays.blogspot.com/2009/08/viola-lee-blues.html

Nothing against Brent as he handled the keys probably better then Pigpen. I would say that Sir Pigpen was arguably the best singer in the band. He certainly added character to the band. WOW! It's been 42 years.

Pigpen era?
Watch out for "Bad Man Brown".
Pete hasn't had quite the same smile since.

The Stranger is a remarkable song... Warren and Railroad Earth blew me away when they pulled it out at Peach:
