Great show. I love the Florida Guitar Army musical output. I put up a post a while back on how I was skeptical about the new line-up sans Mr. Thomasson, but the combo of Chris Anderson and Steve Grisham on guitars brings the Tampa fire.

They opened for Dickey then and on this outing @ BB's they were the headliner and I got to see some old deeper cuts performed beautifully. My wife is holding a setlist backstage. I think they played a couple other tunes that will be on an upcoming album. Chris Anderson sung a new song that I believe was called Cherokee that was not on the setlist.

Both Chris Anderson & Steve Grisham logged many miles with Hughie having played with him on and off since the early/mid 80's.

I miss Hughie and I miss his vocal harmonies and spirit that aren't there, but Henry Paul does adequate job on the Hughie vocals and a great job on his own tunes. I'd rather see these guys keep some precious tunes flowing than to just see them die off. I'm 51 and the crowd was mostly in my age group, but there were some 20's and 30's year olds in the crowd digging the band. Nice!

I can't compliment Anderson and Grisham enough for capturing Hughie and Billy's attack. They bring it hard and true. I have been digging thru some old CD's and came across an old live broadcast from My Father's Place in '86 and Hughie talks a lot on there. It's a joy to hear him talk. He introduces the band with Chris Anderson and Henry Paul among others and mentions the WNEW broadcast which is the show's source and states about coming out to see the band with a show I attended with Johnny Winter at The Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ on the upcoming Saturday night.

It brought me back to some precious times. That show I've chatted about in the Favorite Concerts Seen thread as it was Johnny Winter, Roy Buchanan, & The Outlaws. One of my most treasured musical experiences.

I know it's hard for purists, but go see this band and enjoy these tunes. I searched The Outlaws Wiki page and relived the good times, bad times, & tragedies that this Great American band had gone through.

I took a couple pic's and video shot just the last song of the night Ghost Riders In The Sky. It's not pristine (no tripod/just handheld from the back corner), but it gets you in the room.

GHOST RIDERS IN THE SKY

You sure "Cherokee" wasn't Trail of Tears?

It's the only one Chris sings that I know of.

Set list is pretty much the same they played last time I saw them three years ago.

You are correct Sir! I did a youtube search and found a version of Trail Of Tears from '07. I didn't know it or at least didn't remember it. I had a concert gap of about a decade when my wife and I had back to back kids just under a year apart where my wife stayed home and the shows became a back seat to life. I saw Hughie with Skynyrd just past that era at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC. I remember him doing his licks pre "Sweet Home".

They did state something about a song from that night being on an upcoming release, but past practice has shown Outlaw releases as being an uphill battle. Thanx Ron.

I've professed before about my adoration for Hughie and Billy Jones. The 1st 2 CD's are must owns in anyone's collection. Their input's in particular defined that guitar attack, THAT signature sound. Henry was there too, he's a strummer, a singer, & a song writer. That is what he brought then and still brings. Billy's vocal songs like Holiday may never be played again. His vocals are waaaay distinct, it's plausible that any attempt may well bring embarrassment? His leads.... Whew!

I watched a great portion of this old Capitol Theatre concert in Passaic (Jersey's Beacon) from '78.

Billy's bends and feel on them strings is beautiful. Hughie's Fender Hall Of Fame attack blended well with Billy's Les Paul. Freddie Salem brought guitar game when he replaced Henry. It's a sad refection reading through that Wiki page bringing back the tragedies of Frank & Billy.

I relish some in the thought that Hughie came off tour and died peacefully in a recliner watching Sunday Night Football, at least that's the story I heard and I like to think he went softly still relevant and touring doing what he loved. If that's not how he passed, don't tell me, Please.

That said...... It seems that technically The Outlaws were Richie Blackmore's instrumental band. They predated our Outlaws. Per the (American) Outlaws wiki page (which is not always in stone) Hughie's band was the Rogue's then the Four Letter Words ( http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outlaws_(band) ) It was Frank Guidry and Friends's Band name originally. These folks were incorporated into that entity (unless you need to divide by 5 due to inaccuracy ?). I was amazed of the amount of change in this band. The personnel looks like a novella?, it was a rotating posse of Outlaws.

Folks don't need to be negative nancies. I wish they were still with us, but they're not as stated these Gents logged many miles and stages with Hughie. They play some great tunes and play them well and breathe life into what would lost history. Call me an optimist, but I'd see these guys again. I LOVE these tunes? What can I say? It was a great night that Oct 3rd was!

But wait, Frank O Keefe is not in any of those so how can that be the Outlaws?

Just joking.

It's preposterous! If Chris Anderson and Steve Grishman got Hughie's blessings they certainly have mine. The tunes are eternal.

"Thomasson's voice and guitar style were just too integral a part of the Outlaws' sound for the other members to successfully work without it"....

Yes, I got the hook up with OaO, What's the Pidgeon Forge show?

On another listen the boot I had that was labeled falsely in the paperwork as My Father's Place '86 where he states about that upcoming Capitol Theatre show. It closes with a WNEW thank you from The Bottom Line.

Thanks Ron for hooking me up on the Once An Outlaw. Great CD! Goes to show Hughie went out on a high note. Even though Chris Anderson, Randy Threet and Monte were on OaO. The complete Outlaw History rewrite on Wikipedia speaks volumes ...

Love these guys and see them every chance I get. They deliver every show. It's worth it just to see Chris Anderson play. I miss Billy Crain, but Steve is doing a nice job too. Here's "Grey Ghost" (An HPB song) at BB King's

Trail Of Tears from Once An Outlaw.

And from It's About Pride.

Seems to be something missing....and it's Hughie Thomasson.

One nail, hit squarely on the head.

Funny, I was sent "pride" and don't remember Trail of Tears being on it.

I've never even heard Pride. Have not had any interest.
Have I ever mentioned my disdain for Henry Paul...?

I've been an Outlaws and HT fan since the late 70's. I've been waiting for OAO to be officially released since 07 and looks like it's never going to happen at this point in time. Hughie's widow, Mary released 4 of the songs for download 3 or 4 years ago but I would love to hear the whole cd. Anybody no how I can get a copy? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Doug

"Trail of Tears" does appear on "It's about Pride" and they did it at the Natick show I saw in September.
