The off-the-beaten path listening thread

I am in the mood to try something new. Perhaps other people are as well. Here's my contribution. It's Chris Stills, son of that other guy I love:
Please respond with another artist or link that is off the beaten path.

Nice

Its a Beautiful Day- David LaFlemme's "White Bird" ( helped bring the violin to the forefront of rockish music) The song pretty well stands alone with everything else going on at that time!

I like the new Mavericks song off of MONO

Siena Root playing Raag Jog

Blitzen Trapper - Furr
A really nice acoustic guitar based song that is Dylanesque, whimsical, and catchy, with some really cool metaphorical lyrics.
And besides, I dig wolves...:)

Don't know if off the path or not but recently started enjoying Ryan Bingham. Have no links. Also the Bakersfield disc in Cracker's new dbl disc "Berkley to Bakersfield"

I don't know much about this band (Tamikrest) but I really like this tune.

For many years i really dig Rich Hopkins and the Luminarios. Virtually unknown over here in the Netherlands (never tours here?) but a big name with cult status in the German club circuit (probably due to a German record company?). Rich also played in the Sand Rubies and his music can best be described as desert / garage rock.
Rich Hopkins and the Luminarios - Paraguay
A great Crazy Horse song Neil Young forgot to write:

Boozoo Chavis, the Creole Cowboy from Lake Charles Louisiana. He was a zydeco accordionist who was a pioneer of that genre. "Paper In My Shoe" a big hit for him in 1955. A truly interesting character who wore a white Stetson & an apron (to protect his accordian from sweaty performances). Clifton Chenier is another great talent from that same era. When it comes to Cajun accordian, these 2 are the tops!

My favorite artist few seem to know - Mulatu Astatke. He's an Ethiopian jazz artist, you may recognize him from the soundtrack to Broken Flowers with Bill Murray. "Tezeta" is one of my top 5 favorite songs and "Mulatu" is some of the finest funk:

The album from Drkwav has been one of my favorite releases so far this year.
DRKWAV - Deitch, Medeski, Skerik - 3/5/15 - Brooklyn Bowl:

I'm not sure if Wes Montgomery counts or not. I'm sure many people here are well aware of him, others maybe not.
Anyway, the album The Incredible Jazz Guitar Of Wes Montgomery has been in heavy rotation for me lately. It just sounds so good, so smooth and in the pocket. It's one of those jazz albums you can play for somebody who doesn't like jazz and they will enjoy it.
Grant Green Jr. is a current player keeping some of that sound alive, playing in the footsteps of guys like Wes and his father Grant Sr. while adding his own touch.

I saw these guys recently at a favorite small venue for all of $10. Hadn't heard them before and was really just looking to get out of the house and shake off a bit of cabin fever from this unusually harsh New England winter...
The Mallett Brothers Band - Farmer's Tan - live @ Cervantes Other Side
Bought a couple of their CD's at the show, based on their stellar performance that night.

Glad you are enjoying it!
It's one of my 10 favorite jazz albums of all time, I think. It has climbed up there with my favorite Coltrane and Miles albums.

Wes' recordings with Jimmy Smith are pretty sweet, too. Check out Dynamic Duo.

I've been listening to a lot of The Aristocrats and Guthrie Govan solo material for the past few months. Tasty instrumental guitar-driven jazz/rock fusion.
I'd recommend "Bad Asteroid," the opening track from "Boing, We'll Do it Live" for a sample.

Thank you, folks, for responding. This is just what I needed. Hopefully, people will keep adding to it.
