The New Mastersounds

...life in Fairfield CT tonight! Can't wait!!

THAT is really cool! Was there an "OLD" Mastersounds?

These guys are pretty cool, and Lamar Williams Jr has been touring and recording with them

Saw them in Albany NY last Sunday. Great show.

Love the NMS! Thanks for posting!
Found a link to this band under the NMS vid.
Love to see Misty Blues on tour with Wheels of Soul

Yeah, so I had seen these guys before. I call them "The Meters On Steroids" because that is their sound. Tight funk guitar, snappy drums, grooving bass, B3 organ. They stretch out, but in a way built on that Meters sound: syncopation, taut snappy guitar, not a big space-out thing. However, they also understand how to manipulate their groove to build serious peaks. And they are also master musicians; the fact that they hold back as if it were tantric sex is very impressive because when they cut loose, they sure can JAM.
And out of the blue to me, tonight, Lamar Williams Jr came out and sang!!!! Who knew?!?!?!?!
It was a very interesting development. He has a great soulful voice, cool stage presence, but some of my pals who wanted ALL INSTRUMENTAL which is what New Mastersounds have delivered for years were not pleased.
I was pleased because I saw this guy with Les Brers and I am an ABB fan, so to me, he is part of my musical universe.
For some of my pals, it would be like seeing the Mahavishnu Orchestra and having Devon Allman come out and sing with them. Just not expected.
However, it was cool. Toward the end of the show, we got "Aint Wastin Time No More"!!!!!

Wow, thanks! Those guys are great- they remind me of Booker T and the MGs. Love the keyboards!

@Jim - Hardcore fans being disappointed by Lamar with NMS just shows how you can't win! I hung out with them all in Pittsburgh for two days and two shows last week. Tell your buddies what Pete Shand (bassist) told me - after 20 years he was bored of doing the same ol' and was prepared to just ice the project at least for a while until he discovered Lamar. he's re-energized them all and they're very enthusiastic and all in.

Real nice -- hot as can be -- love that instrumental stuff -- four top musicians, incl. Lamar Jr. -- a little Max Middleton sounding keyboards, was also reminded of the Left Turn groove on this -- as some said, funked up Meters -- thx, & good morning

Was recently introduced to these guys and saw them for the first time a few weeks ago. GREAT friggin' band. And, yes! Lamar Williams, Jr. did come out to sing with them on several songs. Word is they've recently recorded an album together, and it will be out later this year.
