Development is currently underway to bring The National Blues Museum, a world-class cultural attraction, to Downtown St. Louis.

Legendary Blues icon Buddy Guy, Grammy Award Winners Robert Cray and Derek Trucks and renowned film and TV star John Goodman support the project.

The National Blues Museum will explore the Blues and celebrate the genre as the foundation of all modern American music. The facility will educate guests in an entertaining environment that includes high impact technology driven experiences, a 100-seat theater, artifact-driven exhibits and robust public programming.

Blues fans will have a good reason to smile next year when the National Blues Museum opens to the public in downtown St Louis.

Backed by everyone from blues legend Buddy Guy to actor John Goodman, the $13.5 million complex will contain 16,000 square feet of interactive exhibition space, a 100-seat theater and a robust calendar of public programming.

I saw some renderings on the web yesterday and the interactive portions of the museum look incredibly interesting.

This is a great idea and I guess I understand historically why it would be placed in St. Louis ( though I think Memphis, Nawlins, or Chicago would be more appropriate locations now - like most things, I'm sure economics played a huge part in the decision) but that city just does not do it for me. For such a large downtown footprint, very little of it is visitor friendly save for the ballpark area and the way they use their riverfront is a lesson in city planning failure. So much potential there that they seem to have given away to industry and gaming.

That said, I hope this helps St. Louis and all those memorialized. I would definitely visit if I happened to be in town but doubt I'd make a destination out of it.

its only about a 5 hour drive away for me, I might make the trip. I like the idea of the 100 seat theater that it seems they will be using for lectures mostly. that part sounds really interesting.

It would have been cool if they built it by the Dockery Plantation.
