Just curious if anyone saw them on they're tour this past summer. I was not able to make it.

I am a BIG BIG Rich Robinson fan, always enjoy his output of music. I know they released an album, and I believe its all covers except for Omission, which I really like.

Any thoughts?

Great rock and roll band. Saw 2 shows this summer. Looks like Rich is more concentrating on rocking out, as opposed to the jam band approach brother Chris has taken with his band. Great musicianship, though, not just banging out 3 chord tunes. I do wish Rich and Marc would stretch out more, but both were great shows.

Great band, I can't wait for new material. Nico is no slouch as 3rd guitar either. They have a little thing at the Cutting Room on the Nov 13th, but have a few dates left on their tour.

I'm a big fan of Rich's solo stuff. Saw him every summer the last few years including solo acoustic. I really like his solo albums. I like the Magpie Salute album too
Saw Magpie this summer and the show was...OK
part of it was the sound - Wilbur theater has crappy acoustics imo. Set list was OK - I've heard better shows on line. I'm also not a huge fan of Hogg on vox.
I'd go see them again, but wouldn't feel too bad if I missed them. Maybe the next show I see will change my mind.

Caught 2 nights in a row in Chicago at The Metro.....they were freaking GREAT. Seriously felt like it was missing Gorman, but that was pretty much it. Had that old feel to it.

I thought they were great at Peach and am looking forward to Irving Plaza.

The Cutting Room gig is mine. I'm doing it with BackStory/Guitar World and will include me interviewing Rich and Marc followed by an acoustic performance. These are great events in a very intimate setting and I will have 15 minutes of audience questions at the end of the interview period.

Sounds very cool, thanks for the heads up! Looking forward to streaming this.
I hope this is a band that sticks around for awhile and gains some momentum. I really like John Hogg as a vocalist.

I cannot preach about this band enough. People, get out there and go see them. Irving Plaza is has just released $25 tickets for the 11/15 and 11/16 shows. that's $25 with all the charges. That is a freakin' steal!!!

I saw these guys last January when they kicked off and again over the summer at the Peach and I will be at Irving on 11/15. Their playlist right now is insane!!! In addition to classic Crowes and Rich and Marc solo material, they are busting out new covers every night. Free, Humble Pie, Little Feat, Big Star, Led Zeppelin, and that is the tip of the iceberg.

Rich has gone on record saying they will record a double studio album in January. This is the kind of band we have been waiting for. Don't sleep on it....get tickets!!!

To be honest, I am in different to if the Crowes were to ever get back together.

I prefer Rich on his own or in this band. I was reading an article awhile back when it was talking about the recent demise of the BC and with Chris concerning those issues. Rich went on to elaborate about the direction of the band musically ,which he was not in favor of. He thought it was going more in the vein of The Grateful Dead, not totally what he wanted was my impression. He wanted more of a rock sound(guitar). I agree, the last two BC release seem to be leaning towards Chris's solo sound(GD). Not a big fan of those last two and CR's solo stuff. Not that they are bad, just not my cup of tea.

I honestly don't want the Crowes to get back together as long as Rich and Marc have this outlet with this band, I am ok. If it all works out we get 2 great bands, CRB with Chris happy, and MS with Rich happy. 2 happy Robinson brothers is something that we have not had in a long time.

I study this band. I read every interview, article, and listen to every podcast where any of them talk about their history and it seems that from 2007 thru the end in 2013, it was absolute misery. No one needs to live like that.

Hey Alan, with that interview you are doing with Marc and Rich be available to watch online anywhere? either live or afterwards??? I would love to see/hear it but I cannot get into the city on 11/13.

I've been saying for months now they need to get hooked up with nugs.net but they aren't looking for my advice! Tons of audience tapes are out there and just recently 3 soundboard/matrix's popped up.

They are all out there on the torrent site http://www.bt.etree.org. just search magpie salute and they will pop up. we need more soundboards from this band

Bumping this

tune in tonight to the q&a Alan is doing with Marc and Rich and by all means if you can, get tickets to Irving Plaza shows on Wednesday and Thursday.

They just announced they are giving away a limited edition 14 track CD with live tunes from the past year to anyone who attends the NYC shows.

Can't recommend this band highly enough. It's like 1996 era black crowes, rounded out by a huge lineup with 10 people on stage. They make a BIG NOISE....would love to see a joint tour with TTB this summer.

Interesting night. Great interview which lasted about an hour. Alan interviewed Rich and Marc and Nico joined for the 4 song performance. Very hearty conversations. Stories of floods, hoses, & guns. Worth chasing.

Here's the musical portion

Sunday Night Buttermilk Waltz

What Is Home

Glad And Sorry

Wiser Time

Thanks for the videos. I really was never a fan of the song Glad and Sorry by the Faces(but I love that band). I really enjoy Magpies acoustic version of it though.

The interview is outstanding. Alan did a great job of asking intelligent questions and staying out of the way so they could answer. Marc's "hoses or guns" story about a crazy night with Gregg, Warren and Woody is hilarious. What a quote.

Watch the whole thing. Great stuff across the board. Well done!!!

I'm not a huge Black Crowes fan (or of either Robinson brother) but I found this interview with Crows' drummer Steve Gorman super entertaining. If you are a BC fan, you'll love it, but anyone who has ever been in a band (or changed careers, for that matter) should find it illuminating:

Thanks for the kind words. Glad you all liked it. Loved Rich's Gregg stories. Funny and heavy at once.
