I just purchased the first 3 James Gang albums on Amazon. Yer Album, Rides Again, and Thirds. I've been aware of them and heard a few songs on the radio, but haven't listened to the albums from start to finish. I also purchased a boxed set that has every eagles album except for Long Road out Of Eden.

James Gang was a very underrated band IMHO as was/is Joe Walsh as a singer/ songwriter and guitar player.

Joe wrote some classic rock songs back in the 70's with the Gang and as a solo artist.

Here's a great watch/listen. Joe Walsh on Don Kirchner's (sp?) Rock Concert, 1975.

Thanks TD I have had that show on bootleg for years and is a favorite video of mine. Having the Eagles guest on many songs made it that much sweeter.

One of my favorite Joe Walsh solo albums is "So What" which features some of the Eagles.

James Gang Rides Again is a superlative effort.............really, honestly, not a weak tune on the entire record.........in fact, it's a collection of great tunes. I was into it when it came out.............1972.............I was 17. I upgraded it to CD years ago.

Does the guitar riff from "Tend My Garden" (James Gang Rides Again) sound familiar? Sounds like the band Boston (Tom Scholz) used it for the song "More than a Feeling."

Oh man. You must read minds. I stumbled on this a few years' ago, thought it was removed from youtube. One of my favorite performances from Joe Walsh since I was too young to go to his shows back then. Really appreciate posting the link. I frequently search for this version of Walk Away and thought I'd never see it again. Don Kirshner's Rock Concert was the shit. Amazing performances. Always looked forward to watching this show.

On a some-what related note, Joe Walsh was excellent on the Drew Carey show! If you haven't seen it, look it up on youtube. He was as funny as Carey and also played some tunes.

Joe Walsh is such a character and cool guy! I'd be a fan if he didn't even play music!

James Gang was top shelf great classic rock. Joe's solo work got a lil cheesy, poppish, and goofy at times.( I.L.B.T.) His vocals are an acquired taste much the way Niel Young's are. I love them both. He has a very funny personality, a genuine character. Always fun live, his guitar always does the trick. I once saw him with Ringo Starr's 1st All Star band (not named the Beatles) with Levon, Danko, Preston, Clemens, Logrin, Hook, Etc. at Jones Beach in '89(?). He walked up to the mic with his red Ovation and stated how "he loved to play this song because it pisses Don Henley off" as he went into his version of Desperado.

The new disc of his Analog Man actually has some gems on it.

Here is Joe at his finest in James Gang on Freench TV '71, it's a 25min clip with the interview in French, You can partially hear their English answers under the translation. The camera work doesn't focus on the heart of the action at times, but this is a blessed capture of a great band.

You might want to also check out the live Joe Walsh and Barnstorm album "You Can't Argue with a Sick Mind". Great title, great song selection and outstanding playing. It's from the same time period as the Kirchner show.

Remember too that it was Joe Walsh that supplied Jimmy Page with his #1 guitar back in the day. Rumor has it Page stole it from Walsh.
