The "I Love the Hammond Organ" Thread

Keith Emerson playing his Hammond with knives! 😛
That's an M1 considered the baby B3.....all the same features in a smaller organ that could still be hooked up to a Leslie....or this case a guitar amp

OK, someone has to mention Dr. Lonnie Smith and Ike Stubblefield, so I will.
The way I understand it is that Mr. Hammond intended his organ to be a alternative for the churches who could not afford full blown pipe organs. It was Leslie who enabled the organ to be used for rock and roll. Hammond did not like rock. That is why Hammond did not like the Leslie.

Yes I saw Dr Lonnie Smith play didn't know what to expect but because he was playing the Hammond I went and had a wonderful new experience. Another all time favorite anybody heard of Brent Mydland? oh yea!!!!! many many good times!!

Joey DeFrancesco to me is the guy who is keeping the great B-3 tradition alive as much or more than anyone out there right now. I saw him at a Miles Davis tribute with Larry Coryell, Daryl Jones and a bunch of other heavyweights two years ago. Joey completely and undeniably stole the show that night. And he really loves what he's doing and it really shows.

Joey D is the man
If I'd seen a Hammond when I was a kid I know I would have wanted to play one....I have 2 now but can only piddle paddale around on them.....it's an overwhelming instrument to sit behind and think of all the things t can do....if you know how....

I'm sure they had a few problems along the way. I'm also sure a few places they played might have already had Hammond available. I'm also sure that they did some last minute renting if the travel was by plane and the equipment van was behind schedule.
There's probably a few contracts that state they need a Hammond and Leslie. I do know at some point they traveled with at least 2.
The Stony Brook archive release package includes the performance contract and states that a Hammond be made available.
Always been a big Hammond fan. What a sound. Goldtop, enjoyed your mention of Our Day Will Come and Hello Stranger. Definitely a guilty pleasure from my adolesence (and still endures). A sound to dream on.

I love those 2 songs.... a great song is a great song no matter if it's blues, jazz, or pop rock....If it moves ya that's all that matters...Hell I fell in love with "Happy" after hearing it sang at the super bowl a couple years ago
Because I'm happy like a room without a roof....
Some more Jimmy Smith
The Sermon

Joey DeF, right on -- definitely one of the greats -- his playing w/John McLaughlin & Elvin Jones from 96 or so, awesome -- both on CD & DVD --
Bobby Whitlock's organ playing on Layla I thought was the bomb -- same thing Jon Lord's in Deep Purple, esp Machine Head -- & of course Mr. Allman, right outta the gate (1st solo on 1st song of 1st record) to that cool stuff on FE/EAP & beyond

Here's some organ for yas . . .
thank you very much the coolest six minute yeah! 😉
