The Faces-Borstal Boys-Live in Voorburg 1973

A Nod Is As Good As A Wink To A Blind Horse is my favorite Faces album. It was their biggest seller too.

Ron Wood's 2nd finger ("bird finger") slide-playing is interesting. I'm not sure I've ever seen anybody play like this before.

The late Ronnie Lane sang lead of some of their tracks instead of Rod Stewart.
I think they were called the Small Faces before Stewart joined.
Yeah Wood has a slide on his bird finger. If you hold up the next finger to the left at someone it certainly has a different effect.

@salcapitano I guess I just never noticed. I don't (CAN'T!) actually play slide, but it seems that most use their ring finger. I guess there are no rules! 😉

Yep, and Sonny Landreth uses the pinky!

Here is up close on Dickey playing slide. You guys are right. I never noticed or can't remember Dickey putting his slide on his middle finger!
Where would we be without your vast knowledge on all things ABB.

My only regret is I can't like Sal's post 100 more times.
"Is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho?"

Let's see what y'all guys think of Blind Owl Wilson's slide playing on an old Goldtop Les Paul? It's not developed but I really like it.
BTW Wilson died in 1970 of a drug overdose and was one of four noted rock players to die that year at age 27 and all OhDeed! Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison were the others.
The singer Bob Hite died a few years later at 38. A fan handed him a vile of heroin between sets, Hite snorted it and dropped immediately. I remember reading about it but can't remember the year.

@looziana_lou. Bought that album when it came out in 1974. Wasn't sure if I liked it at first but warmed to it. Liked Long Time Gone and Hand Picked right away. Great solo from Chuck on Hand Picked.
It was kinda country and western swing and I wasn't a big fan of that style then.
But while the album was on the charts Dickey was interviewed in Circus magazine I think it was and he said the guitar he is holding on the front cover is the resonator guitar Duane Allman used on Little Martha and Dickey played a Martin acoustic on the track. Dickey said after Duane was killed, Gregg gave him the guitar. I'm sure Dickey still has it at his house today. No way he would let that instrument go.
The four times I saw the Allman Brothers do Long Time Gone, Chuck Leavell sang the second verse. This is in Boston.

Back to the original topic, yes, I totally dig The Faces and listen to them often. Ron Wood is highly underrated as a guitarist and have you ever seen his artwork?! I follow him on Instagram. He's amazing!!
