the Duck Tape Music FB page had interesting post yesterday

pictures of a bunch of old tapes - ABB, Gregg, Dickie, Eddie Hinton, Dan Penn, etc and Ann Sandlin commenting, among other things:
"I do have a tape with a recording of just Gregg and Duane playing some and talking back and forth. I also have an entire ABB show no one has ever heard because Duane gave Johnny the tape of it and never got it back."

That's incredible! Another comment:
"Anathalee Sandlin I’d do it in a heartbeat if I thought anyone would be interested. I also have unheard Hourglass rehearsal tapes I’ve considered putting out too"
Yes, we are interested!

WooHoo!

Wow

This would truly be amazing!
Awfully curious just to know the timeframe (date) of the unreleased Allmans show.
Simply a guess, the duo material with just Gregg & Duane might sensibly be around the Allman Joys/Hourglass era since Johnny was involved around that time and there's further mention of Hourglass rehearsal sessions.
"Is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho?"

The time to act on this is now. Sadly every year people are buying less and less music. Everyone with stuff that needs to be heard (and potentially make a buck on) needs to start clearing out the vaults.
The above may or may not be true, but I want to hear it so whatever it takes to get it out!

No direct knowledge but I have heard from a former Capricorn employee that many two track reels exist.
Who knows what is on them other than what bigann has mentioned.

What's on them is Love, & brilliance from a great musician -- love the photo of Johnny, Pete & Paul -- the CPR CDs alone that they did around the time of that photo (IIRC) are tremendous, underappreciated albums
Shout out to Ms. Annathalee -- gosh those wall full of tapes -- Johnny was a prolific genius -- love the book still, it has new info every time

What a great talent - Johnny Sandlin. Certainly made his mark on much of the music we've come to love. If you haven't read "A Never-Ending Groove", I strongly recommend this - a wonderful read.

wonder if one of them is the other reel of the 5/23/70 show Johnny released in trader circles a few years ago....

Just posted photos of tapes of unreleased Hourglass material from 1967. I'd love to see this released.

I'm begging you baby

That was a nice video. Thx for posting. Enjoyed seeing all those pictures of great musicians and session guys. Also enjoyed the pics of the different guitars.
Brings back the reality of who we have lost in the last few years. But the music will live forever.

LOL -- What he said....

This is all very exciting. When I saw the pic of all the tapes Johnny has I was reminded of Capricorn Record tapes that I purchased from a studio auction by a band named Easy. It is of
there first lp on Capricorn. For those of you who don't know, Easy was the original name of Cowboy. I have 8 of the smaller reels and 3 3" reels that are the masters for Cowboy's first record.
The tapes have the names of various Capricorn employees who checked them out to play at home. 'Duck' is written on almost all of these tapes boxes. I contacted Johnny 4 years, or so, ago
and asked if he would meet with me to discuss the tapes. He said 'yes', much to my surprise.
I've only played one of the tapes and there is a tune entitled "Killer" on it. It is an unreleased
Cowboy song. I wanted to ask him about that song, and all the names on the boxes, and the
history of that recording session. Well, I was on my way to Wanee, with a side trip to see Mr. Sandlin and got delayed. I had to contact him and ask if it was ok to meet him another day, but it didn't work out. I wish I could have meet him, just in general because I did admire his work, and
selfishly I wanted to know more about the tapes I now own.

That's a very nice post. Was there only one tune on that first tape, or were there others? Enjoy the other reels. Very neat to have masters of some great tunes. I have those on vinyl.
From the early days, there were many great albums on the Capricorn Label.
