The Best Guitar Solos: 108 Hair-Raising Moments

List published yesterday at Udiscovermusic. Check it out, I'm not that good at linking articles.
Some highlights were
#107 Layla credited to Duane and Eric (how did this barely make the list?)
#57 One Way Out credited to Duane and Dickey
(and one that totally surprised me since he passed in 1976 but I really appreciate)
#44 Quadrant 4 from Cobham's Spectrum album, soloist Tommy Bolin
"Is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho?"

Lists are like ... OPINIONS! Everybody's got one. 😉
Right behind Layla was Hotel California. I've always liked that interplay between Joe Walsh and Don Felder. When people ask about the differences in sounds between Gibsons and Fenders, I usually refer them to the solo on this song. Some great stuff on the list - not sure I agree with the priority. As always, I could take a handful out and replace them with solos that didn't make the cut.

The list is better than I thought it would be but I also could swap a few for something else.
Good to see a 1930's solo from Charlie Christian make the list. Charlie was really a groundbreaker. Derek and Susan named one of their children after Charlie Christian I remember reading some time ago.
The second solo on this is one that wouldn't make any list but if you listen to every note on the second solo it becomes clear it's one fantastic guitar solo. Incredible!!

some cool things, some questionable
agree with Tommy Bolin, Charlie Christian, Wes Montgomery.
Jimmy Page / Heartbreaker was the song that got me into "real" electric guitar solos.
I would put almost anything by Duane and Dickey higher up than 57. We could argue / discuss this forever, but if I were going to pick one it would be IMOER. I like what they say about 1 guitarist in 2 bodies.
Derek should be on that list. Midnight in Harlem.

@stormyrider Yes the IMOER from Fillmore East contains excellent guitar playing from Dickey and Duane. I've heard from the beginning of Duane's solo it's a different performance at Fillmore. That Tom Dowd spliced them together because he wanted Dickey and Duane's best IMOER solos on the album.
Then some years later I read when the master tapes were played again it was ALL on the same performance and Tom Dowd's recollection was wrong.
Yes I agree Derek Trucks should be on the list. Derek is one of the best soloist on electric guitar working today and especially on slide guitar. During Duane Allman's life time a ran into several rock music fans who argued Ry Cooder is the best slide guitarist. Today I still hear that some but most of the well known guitarists reject claims of one famous player being better than the other. They argue it is a matter of who's style you prefer and rating successful musicians is not the same as voting for the best quarterback.

About 10 years ago or so, Mule-O -Ween was a tribute to Jimi. Right around that time, RS did a second version of the top 100 guitar players of all time. Jimi was #1 the 1st time. Eddie Van Halen was #1 the second time.
The local radio station interviewed Warren about the show during the interview they talked about the poll. Warren said something like - it's not a competition and ranking people is silly. Then he said - but - anyone who doesn't think Jimi Hendrix was the best guitar player ever is just plain wrong.

Rusty, absolutely have always agreed about that with lists, purely subjective and opinions of those who compiled it. I hesitated to even mention this one, but unlike a lot of others where I find myself thinking "who the heck is that?", I knew a lot of us old fogies would at least relate to or know many of the artists and music included on this one.
"Is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho?"

Also, as far as the best Jimmy Page solo I've ever heard the stretch from 3:43 - 5:20 on Dazed & Confused "BBC Sessions" disc 1 (the one that is 6:39 long) is just astounding! The "Heartbreaker" that listed is also very good but that stretch in Dazed & Confused, WOW!
"Is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho?"

Agree that “best” is a non-word when it comes to subjective stuff like this - everyone has different likes & dislikes
just read “the 30 greatest westerns of all time” & Shane wasn’t included - nor Gunfight at the OK Corral, or Hour of the Gun - or an old fave I haven’t seen in too long, Frontier Badmen (b&w)
Yankee Magazine currently lists “10 best unknown NE ski areas” or something like that - same thing - not at all a bad list/room for upbeat discussion/disagreement🎿
thx for posting - the solo on Dan Fogelburg’s Face The Fire - ablaze🎸
