BTW the reason Jaimoe isn't in the arrest photos we've all seen is because he was locked up in the "colored" jail.

The segregated deep south. Yes Ronnie Watergate didn't really bother me but segregation did.....sweet home Alabsma.

Blackey you’re my favorite poster ut on this you are wrong. I am lucky enough to know the true story of that event told to me by the prinicple person. Very different from the legend.
I’m a Mobilian, by the way.

What I find hard to fathom was that Muscle Shoals was able to thrive in those times while being at the ground zero for racism and bigotry. Goes to show the power of music.

Well it was Butch Trucks who said the reason Jaimoe wasn't in those arrest photos of Duane, Gregg, Dickey , Berry and himself is because they dumped Jaimoe in the colored jail.

Yes music didn't seem segregated back in the 40's, 50's and 60"s. There is a video of the Buddy Rich quartet from 1959 on the Lenny Bruce TV show and the bass and trumpet players are black. And man can they play. The bass player is walking the dog with that upright. Can somebody link it? The one that says "better audio" is best.

Yeah I want to hear the real story too. I've heard Butch claim Jaimoe was in the "other" jail. The segregated jail.

Of course integrated bands existed, Mezz Mezzrow writes in his autobio about possibly the first mixed band back in the late twenties or so when he began playing with Sidney Bechet, but in Jim Crow land, Chitlin circuit, no way Jose.  Jim Crow land not defined by a specific geography.

Civil Rights act passed in 64 but it took many court cases and many years to end Jim Crow, superficially at least.  School desegregation here in Mobile was not settled until the early 90s, Birdy Mae Davis case.  Now nearly every church has a private school, aka segregation academy.

Many tryin* to turn it back now.

Hope no one is upset by my use of critical race theory.

Actually if you are upset you need to be.
