Thanks for pointing this out. I had heard about this when there was considerable doubt that it would ever be completed. I will record it when it runs again.

And like Duane's, Terry's vision had wings to fly even after he was gone. Never the same but some pretty good stuff. I didn't follow them much after the tragedy but for obvious reasons admire the success they were able to achieve without him.

I got a chance to watch this last night.

Phenomenal --- just so tastefully well done words are not sufficient.

This sets a new standard for music documentaries for me, to the extent that that term serves it little justice. It should be categorized as something much different and higher. Terry's daughter effectively goes on a quest to learn about a father she only knew via others and what she could find on the web.

Think as if Galadrielle could've translated her book onto the screen against the soundtrack of tasty Duane recordings --- that's the type of power and passion and meaning that comes across in this work. The parallels are really eery.

There are many isolated rhythm guitar tracks to a bunch of their songs...Not talking about 25 or 6 to 4 or his great solos, that goes without saying. But rather his rhythm guitar tracks.

The guy was an absolute masterful, incredibly tasty rhythm guitarist who added so much to the tracks under the radar. A monster all-around musician. Sad shame he went out the way he did but really great to see that 40 years down the road, he is being recognized for his contributions which were many.

Agree, his daughter did an excellent job presenting this.

I watched it the first night it was broadcast. Sad tale but very interesting one. Even if Kath did not commit suicide (a friend said there was NO way in the doc), carelessness due to his drug use likely caused the accident with a gun that killed him.

Too many musicians get mesmerized with their own talent and caught up in their own bubble where it never occurs to them that to maintain their health they need to do something like riding a bicycle or lifting weights. Look at the pictures of Kath towards the end of the documentary...........he looked quite bad...........face very bloated and way overweight. And of course he was doing a ton of drugs.

WHAT a talent though........31 is just WAY too young.........the quote by Hendrix that Kath was better than him always blows me away.............

Watched this last night....outstanding documentary. Very impressed that his daughter even got Peter Cetera involved. He was a no show for their rock and roll hall of fame induction and he did not partake in the excellent documentary CNN produced earlier in the year. I think his involvement in this documentary, tells you all you need to know about what Terry Kath meant to those who knew him well.

It's funny, I am 40 years old, and growing up Chicago was my "dad's music". I never gave them the time of day until I saw them on MTV in the late 80's and by then they were way too mellow for my hard rock/heavy metal tastes. As I evolved as a music fan over the years I have been shown the light.

While I am still not rocking anything they did in the 80's, their output when Terry was leading the band is mandatory listening. He was such a badass as a guitarist, vocalist and band leader....his loss is one of the most tragic in music history and I don't think he gets the attention that he deserves. This documentary should help a little. Watch it if you can.

Is there a copy of the Caribou ranch TV special around? I remember watching it when it came out - iirc it was very good.

They did 3 specials on ABC under the Dick Clark Productions banner in the 73-75 period. First one was "Chicago in the Rockies" in 73, Followed by "Meanwhile Back at the Ranch" in 74 and "Rockin New Years Eve" in 75....The first one IMO was the best, which showed them playing a studio cut of "Tired of Being Alone" w/ Rev. Al Green....Killer version which showed how soulful that original lineup could be. Lots of great Kath footage....The other 2 specials were good but had some kind of "hokey" content as well....I believe all 3 can be found in their entirety on YouTube....Back in the day, these guys were absolute MotherF'ers as musicians....Great original band.

That ending will make so much more sense after seeing the whole thing. Very metaphorical to how Terry's life is portrayed.

One of the greatest rock musicians to ever live. That band had a sound like no other. Such a furtive time in musical history. Those of us that weren't of age during that time can't understand how freely everyone lived back then. Such a wonderful time to come of age.

Having said that, I'm very grateful his daughter took on this project, as it did provide many insights into Terry's life.
