Tedeschi Trucks appreciation.
I'm disappointed with the new CD, especially after 3 years. I'm sorry, but the song writing is just not very good and I think they are a great band. Nothing else out there has their 'power' in a live show currently. It is a credit to them to play so well with such mediocre material.
I too revisited the DTB band after Kofi. It just reinforced my stance that I want more Derrik and more Mike M. on these TTB albums. I wish Susan and Mike would take 50/50 leads. I mostly miss those Derrick solo's that slowly build and just hit that prefect crescendo with your arm hairs standing on end. Sorry, but their albums just don't do that for me.
I totally agree with your take on the vocals. I would like to hear more Mike as well. However, it is called the Tedeschi Trucks Band so I guess it shouldn't be that surprising that she is the vocal leader.
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.
Unfortunately, TTB will never be Delaney and Bonnie, because, well, Delaney was a great singer. One can be an amazing guitar ace but not being a singer is a detriment in the big picture (again, commercially). I suspect Derek's singing is woefully as bad as mine. A thread in itself could be: Great guitarists who can't sing. How big would Hendrix have been if mute? Big, yes. Not as big.

True. And on the flip side of that coin is great singers who can't play an instrument. They are more often than not they are the face of a band. Hard to replace when a band often breaks up.

I wouldn't say "unfortunately" - I love that Delaney & Bonnie are one of many inspirations, but TTB are their own band with 4 amazing singers, and probably share a little more in common with D&B's successor, Mad Dogs & Englishmen. However, Bonnie can probably out tambourine all of them 😉
Nice set lists the past two nights in DC.
Their "catalogue" of originals and covers is getting beefy. ![]()
