I respect that everyone has a right to an opinion, and thank God for the internet, a right to say it as many times as they desire. But I think if people state people are mediocre, or average, and feel the need to do so repetitively, in fact so often a casual reader knows how this person thinks of this artist.... then here they come again, ad nauseum repetitive....to tell what we have beat into us THIS person doesn't LIKE this person. OK, wow, stop the presses. we know, it is not about established artists. It is all about YOU. So my point, since one has self appointed themselves as a qualified judge of talent (and they may be) but if that is what one is, then THEY should put up a YOUTUBE link of THEIR playing. Wait! They don't have one? They personally are not better? That signature guitar doesn't play? What? That means they are simply a "Critic" who we all know are wannabe's........ So please, post those youtube links, and let us know where to buy tickets to your next gig.

LOL. You complain about my posts almost as often as I express them.

Don't care for my opinion?

Skip over it.

Enjoy the day.

I think you posted 15 or so times ON THIS THREAD (so far). I responded once, when your abrasive rant drove me over the edge. You take over threads. You start controversy on them to get attention. You are all about you. The last time I really got inspired to really respond was when you informed us that Johnny Winter really wasn't that good.

Until you post a youtube of your playing, I declare you a blowhard. I mean capital BlowHard. I challenged you before to this and gee, No Response. Anyone as pointed and critical and negative and intolerant of creativity should put up or shut up. Either show your chops or live with the blowhard tab, as Susan must live with your Average pronouncement from whatever high lofty place you reside.

Dear Tony, I have absolutely nothing to prove to you or anyone else on this board. Think of me what you will. I do not care what you think.

I respect that everyone has a right to an opinion

As long it agrees with yours, or isn't expressed too often. Imho, you have just lowered yourself to my level. How many times have you written here about your dislike for what I write?.. I would think based on your own words and beliefs, once would suffice. Yet, you continue to share your feelings.

Take a look in the mirror before you accuse me of something you are equally guilty of. And btw, I will continue to write what I feel, be it either in agreement or dissent.

Enjoy the day.

Glad you enjoyed it.....as long as were spouting opinions....there isn't a guitar player ever who could have been on that recording and made it any better. In fact it would take away from a great song

OK now you're getting crazy! I am sure Effie's fit in fine and Lord knows I make everything better. 😉

Love that song! But she could sing the phonebook and it would be killer.

What some don't see about the TTB is the growth of Derek? Again his time with Eric served him well and after that is when change began. Solo wise he learned to condense at times. Sometimes shorter can be better and can be a more defined statement. But most important has been his growth as a writer and guitar work within the song when not soloing. His growth when not using a slide is amazing.

If you had told me that the TTB and Mule would both release albums and that Derek's writing would surpass Warren, I would have called you mad. Like both but the TTB is over the top good. The whole album is so strong.

He puts together a smoking band and does not go cheap but instead has an army. Makes it old school and has everyone involved in soloing. Not any type of sell out to the industry.

So many reasons to like them even before I get to the Susan part. 😛

Let the guy grow and he will just get better and better.

The instrumentation on that recording is perfection at it's finest and most would not know that is Aretha on the Piano

The freekin horns just chill me with the bends.....it's so "song" perfect...phuc guitar just listen if you don't get that then you got to have a hole in your soul...who needs guitar when you can do that without it

Put's in it's place among all the other great instruments out there as just a part of the whole

It's funny because I'm drawn to the abb because the guitar was part of the whole....the songs were great songs...not just vehicles for guitar solos....

agree with much of what you said about many songs.

Many ABB songs are great "songs" and stand on their own with short (1 - 2 chorus) solos. The dual guitar lines are great.

On the other hand, if Whipping Post stayed similar to the studio version, it would have never been considered something special.
The studio version of BHW is very good - the extended jam version is killer.
Liz Reed has a very cool melody, but it's essentially a jazz tune, and is all about the improvisation. Same for Jessica, High Falls, Les Brers, the list goes on.

YMMV, and thanks for posting the link to Aretha

I agree 100% but it really was about a song even with the extended solos...Jessica....is there a more beautiful melody....same with E Reed....the song was first and center....The extended parts of whipping post took you through emotions like a story. The brooding part in the middle of Dickeys solo is a guy so far in despair...hung out by his woman....it's not about guitar at all...it's about the song

fair enough.

I look a jazz tunes as vehicles for improvisation, but you're right in that the melody itself has to be worthwhile for the improv to work.

Forget fish. The song is the beef and the singing and solos are the spices. Give it a good rub and it will be smokin'!

A good tune is even more important is genres like Jazz as without it you just have a bunch of guys noodling. No matter how good they are. A solid tune is the launching pad for exploration.

Something Dickey Betts knows very well. Cool

Despite the subject of this "hater" thread nearly all the posts have shown respect for both the artists and for the other members of this forum, without the name-calling and other child-like reactions that we have seen before.

So if we could only do that with a thread about Dickey, we would be on to something.

You gotta' admit....when it comes to destroying a band, Susan may be a Yoko, but she ain't no Dickey Betts! 😛 😉

Not that I'm comparing or anything....

Couldn't have said it better.......He really wanted to be a musician and not a geetar player....

It's funny there is never 1 thing that makes a change. Everyone wants to hang on Yoko for breaking up the Beatles. I'm sure John was already moving on and I'm sure just as with the TTB there are many more reasons the DTB doesn't exist at this time not one of them being Susan.

For what I like in a band TTB has it all. Great vocals, great songs, great arrangements. Monster players who are actually improvising within the frame work at every moment. Plus they take off and extend some tunes....just not every tune....

I love it all DTB Soul Stew and TTB....maybe someday DTB will play again....in the mean time I'm going to enjoy the great music Derek makes right now. A true artist not a geetar player

I've always liked Susan & she's always been super nice to people.
What a terrible post title...(even if it wasn't meant to sound that way.)
I'm sure Derek knew what he was doing & thought it out carefully when he decided to form TTB with Susan. Their musics great!

Wow...this thread is still here.

Well at least this creates the illusion that this place still has a pulse-that's a good thing

I agree with ABSNJ-there's not been anything hateful at all in this thread. Some differences, but no hate here.

And what Dickey Betts has to do with this...who knows!? 😉

You get a better price if you are still alive. In the case of Kanye, you don't have to have a soul to make a deal with the devil.

Some hate her for other reasons which again is fine.

No form of "hate" is fine Imho. I just don't buy into the colloquially "acceptable" use of the term "hater". Hate is a very strong word. I do not for one minute believe there is one person on this board who truly "hates" her, some of us have a dissenting opinion about her skill set...which is fine with me, as are all who just, disagree and have the cajones to say so.
Cool

Hey BIGV! I don't come by here much anymore. I have been on here lately for the Capt. Skipper fundraiser. I agree with you. Since I have been called a hater, I looked it up in the dictionary. "noun 4.
intense dislike; extreme aversion or hostility." I am not a hater. I don't like Susan's singing with the TTB. I saw one live show early on and was not impressed. The video posted here did not impress me. I have seen a few videos on facebook too. It is fine with me if you love her. I don't love her vocals, but I sure don't hate her by any means or in any way. BTW, that video came from a show here in my hometown of Delray Beach. I didn't go to the show!
