I don't think anyone is actually comparing the two. I also don't think anyone questions Susan's accomplishments. They just don't like her as the full time singer for Derek. Some of them are just messing with your heads.
As for time the other girl spent in her bedroom, I would say that she practices a lot, loves music, wants to become an artist and has accomplished quite a bit for a 19 year old. Don't see the need to knock her or drag her into some comparison. Most 19 year olds spend their day on a cellphone texting "wus up". I think she may have some other issues or she just said "here's my tits". I don't know her so can't judge. Either way it is working.

It does but the ability to do one doesn't reflect the ability to do others. Many can do both. 😉
My comment was more on a fingerpicking angle which is a different style to what Susan does. Even tougher if you add singing at the same time. Same as Derek would not be able to play some classical guitar parts. Just not his thing and very difficult to do.
Music is not a competition - it is what sounds good to your ears. Different ears like different things.

All I know is I'm going back for more tonight. In fact, I just booked a hotel room because of the dang snow. In my mind the show will be worth it. Plus I'm going to see Stanley Clarke Sunday so I'm saving myself an additional round trip.
There is a lot of talent on that stage. One thing I noticed last night, Susan was the only band member not to take a break. She was on the stage, usually commanding the stage, all night long. I feel like she is the band leader... I'm not a musician, so I don't know all that entails, but she certainly seems to drive the ship.
I'll watch more closely tonight.

No, I can't say exactly what Derek intended, but what I took from it was - "if you hate Susan (for whatever reason) check this out! Maybe you need to reevaluate your opinion or estimation."
I agree with the idea that some folks feel the need to express their distaste for Susan as often as possible. We heard you the first four or five hundred times! 😉

Took me a while to figure out why DFC named this thread Susan Haters - he was just trying to get you all in the same room. It's a trap.
When Cream finished and Eric moved on to projects like D&D, many people felt the same. He gave up half hour solos for songs. I am glad he did as 50 years of soloing would get boring and you would miss out on classics like Layla.
Muleman :D.....There are those who play guitar and wish they could do what Derek can when he solos. Along the way the song got put behind the solo and it became a vehicle for the solo instead of a song with a instrumental break. Guitar in our lifetime has been separated out from other instruments as though it's something different than one of thousands of musical instruments. It has a throne and a position above all other instruments for those who listen this way.
So the idea of putting the solo back where it should be....as a part of the whole is not in line with how they listen to music.....I would say most don't listen to anything that is not guitar forward.
You get it....Eric got it.....Derek got it....there are those who will never get it. The guitar solo is more important then the whole to those who feel this way and listen only for the solo.
I wonder how may listen to music without guitar in it....it does exist.... 😮 😮

I think you posted 15 or so times ON THIS THREAD (so far). I responded once, when your abrasive rant drove me over the edge. You take over threads. You start controversy on them to get attention. You are all about you. The last time I really got inspired to really respond was when you informed us that Johnny Winter really wasn't that good.
Until you post a youtube of your playing, I declare you a blowhard. I mean capital BlowHard. I challenged you before to this and gee, No Response. Anyone as pointed and critical and negative and intolerant of creativity should put up or shut up. Either show your chops or live with the blowhard tab, as Susan must live with your Average pronouncement from whatever high lofty place you reside.
Last nights show featured all kinds of solos ~ horns, flute, keys, bass, drums and guitar. Susan's guitar playing was great! She owned "The Sky is Crying". How long has she been playing? Solo and with Derek Trucks? She is a great guitar player. But, there was a moment last night, after she soloed, when she turned to Derek and said, "Show them how it's done."
My last two nights with TTB were stellar!
Tonight I'm off to see Stanley Clarke. I'm sure it will be a wonderful show, but, compared to the last two nights... A gentle let down.
And then it will be Monday.
