Hate is a very strong word...I like Susan's voice and playing ...like TTB..I just miss DTB
The word "hate" has been diluted by the new "electronic plugged in generation".
To me, the word "hate" has a very evil meaning to it. I'm not blaming the poster of the thread, I'm just observing how the word itself has been effectively changed. Trendy, and now used to freely describe anybody who disagrees with a certain point of view.
So instead of rationally discussing something, the person with the opposing viewpoint is simply labeled a "hater".
In my mind it cheapens the real meaning of the word.
And certainly there is no reason to hate Susan.
It's becoming more apparent that as time goes by I fit in less and less.
And perhaps that's a good thing.

Nicely stated, Thank You.

I agree that hate is not the word to use here. I don't hate anyone or their career or creative choices. I just might not happen to like them. 😛
I was crazy about both the STB and DTB. I was a fan of Susan's before I even learned that her and Derek were "a thing," and a fan of Derek Trucks before I realized he was an Allman Brother.
I just don't find the TTB's music all that interesting. And I've heard all of it. With the whole Soul Stew Revival thing, I was kind of thinking . . . nah, I don't really like where this is going. That, and the current TTB seem to be less than the sum of their parts . . . and they've got too many parts, imo.
So, it may be for some, but it's not for me. That doesn't make me a hater.

Thanks for your post. I must be as old fashioned as you are because I don't like being branded a "hater" for any reason. There were certainly some nasty posts about Susan. Those stopped long ago, but the term hater continues to be applied to anyone who posts negative comments about the TTB.
Where else but on this website would the term hater be used in the title of a thread about musician you really like?

I agree with you on all counts Randy, except I did like Soul Stew.

I liked the video, Susan really got down on guitar in that. But I like this even better:

'Hate' is a very strong word that reserve for a select few who have earned it - Saddam Hussein, the Ayatollah, Muammar Qaddafi, Osama Bin Laden, etc. While it is true that I don't worship at the Church of Susan, I can take her vocals in small doses. But if I hear an album's worth in one go, it'll be awhile before I want to hear her again. Just because some of us do not 'adore' does not mean we 'hate' her. She has done nothing to earn MY hatred.

The TTB is a commercial successful. The band is more successful than both of Susan's and Derek's solo bands. With that said, the TTB is here to stay. Personally, I like Mike's vocals more than Susan's and I prefer more of Derek's guitar than Susan’s guitar. The DTB was focused around Derek. Some people can't listen to Derek play for three hours. The TTB mixes things up and targets a mainstream audience.
When Derek and Susan's kids are grown, I believe that Derek will put his solo career back on track. I would like to see the DTB return and Derek and Jimmy form a band. I can't see Derek playing on the side of Susan for the rest of his career. She does hold him back.

"Hater" has to be the most juvenile term to enter the American lexicon in the last decade. If this footage is supposed to sway one's opinion who doesn't care for Tedeschi's ability as a musician, it misses the mark. Her singing style isn't bad, but there's just nothing special about it. Bonnie Raitt did it 30+ years ago.
Her guitar work is nothing that can't be seen in a corner cafe on amateur night by an 8th grade kid who took guitar lessons over the summer.
Hate ? Not at all.
Buy a ticket to see her ? Not a chance.

squabs : your remarks were ok until you got to the 8th grader part. That just seems way too harsh IMHO

Yeah, give me a Mulligan on that one. Make it 2 summers.

Agreed and Thank you.

squab if you make it 3 summers it will not be so harsh

I love TTB. I'd love to see a band with Derek and Jimmy. As far as Susan holding him back, who knows. For years Derek has been talking more about songs and productions over being a guitar hero. Listen to Joyful Noise, and then listen to Already Free - better yet listen to GA Theater then listen to Roadsongs. The focus was changing before TTB. I suspect this is what Derek wanted to do, but then he never invited me over for dinner to clue me in.
Maybe Derek wanted to change. I think he is more in the mold / mindset of people like Miles and Herbie, who were frequently changing and re inventing themselves. In one interview, Derek said that if you're pissing someone off, you must be doing something right. I can see Miles and Herbie saying the same thing.
For that reason I don't think TTB will last forever. I'll enjoy it while it lasts, as I'm sure that I will enjoy Derek's next project.

Agreed, this has been an arc for quite awhile. Sped up by his time in the ABB and with Clapton.
Song orientation.
I love instrumental music, my last band was an instrumental trio, who played for 10 very intense listeners on average. One of our last gigs a twenty something guitarist from the other band came up to give me a compliment then said, "It's too bad only musicians like this kind of music.". Out of the mouth of babes...
I'm going to still have a ton of jamming in the next one but singing is back in the mix.
My fav DT rekkid is still the first one but that ship has sailed.
I think ST is a fine musician as well.

I've been playing guitar for 30 years, and I know that Susan Tedeschi is easily one of the best blues guitarists I've ever seen. The woman's got soul. Saying she plays like "an eighth grader" is something only a non-musician would say.

So, I've laid off of this post, until this quote. Kinda been waiting for someone to state the obvious and give her the respect she deserves. Really isn't a blues based singer songwriter of her cailiber out there today. Really feel lucky that her and Derek formed this band that is frankly of no equal.

I've been playing for 35+... A simple 2 minute search on You Tube produced this gem:
Here's the same girl doing a cover of AC DC's "Highway to Hell"

I LOVE to watch Derek's face when he jams with his wife, he often smiles

This is how I know you are all taking this too seriously. Not one comment/question about what must be a XXX Classic.
I think that I smile while jamming with my wife but you would have to ask her really. I know that she is smiling - that's a guarantee. 😉
Took me a while to figure out why DFC named this thread Susan Haters - he was just trying to get you all in the same room. It's a trap.
When Cream finished and Eric moved on to projects like D&D, many people felt the same. He gave up half hour solos for songs. I am glad he did as 50 years of soloing would get boring and you would miss out on classics like Layla.

Highway to Hell sounds just like Pride and Joy.
She is a one trick pony obviously.

Hopefully this was not posted as an example of great playing. Her timing is bad and there's nothing natural about her playing, or her boobs.
Susan wins on all fronts.
I lasted 30 seconds...
Just can't imagine comparing Susan Tedeschi to this person. 😮

That Jess girl has definitely got chest... I mean, chops.

I think this clip displays more of her "boundless" (as in those puppies are bouncing) talent.

The reason the nasty commenters died down. 'Voice like a fisher cat'. 'Stole our guitar god'. Yoko. And it sure looked and sounded like hate to me. is because the ttb is actually a darn good band and a lot of those folk went to a ttb show and actually liked it. No need to hide behind word definition. Admit it. There definitely was a hatred of Susan when ttb first formed. It was quite rude and saddening.

I don't know about the comparison stuff. But that woman has been playing far longer than people think.
Her version of Maybe I'm Amazed is pretty good and not played by a beginner. Plus she has heart shaped cleavage.

That is pretty damn nice; she might be better served just wearing a sweatshirt. But the point here is that there is some real talent out there, I found her with a simple search of female guitarists...

It was unfair of me to go to the most base, easily criticized distraction from her performance. However, that "Long Train Running" is weak.
BigV you are correct she should cover up a bit. Maybe perform in a different room. College girls performing in front of a web cam in their bedrooms is a little bit overdone.
Not that I would know.

LOL - I can easily see this thread winding down over her breasts. 😛
A sweatshirt or covering those up occasionally might give her credibility to some but I don't think that would matter.
She has almost a million subscribers and the videos watch over 75 MILLION times. Now she is a young lady who has talent and likely a better guitarist than many that are critical of her both here and the millions of comments on youtube. But those breasts are what got her 75 million views both in a positive and negative way. The talent is a nice bonus.
All of this by the age of 19. When talking about college girls in their dorm on webcam, she is the Queen of it. It is why we are talking about her. Those hits are what brought her up in BigV's search.
I think she may not have been the best example to use. Beautiful, nice voice and has been performing to a degree since childhood. The music industry loves those and has definitely noticed.
When she was 15 and was covered up. Again pretty talented and does some nice playing. To call her an inferior player to Susan would be a mistake. Different styles of playing but Susan would have a tough time playing some of what this girl does.

75 million views and no record contract. That should tell you something, if the videos themselves did not.
2000 Grammy nomination for Best New Artist
2003 Grammy nomination for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance
2004 Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Blues Album for Wait For Me
2006 Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Blues Album for Hope and Desire
2010 Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Blues Album for Back to the RiverWon 2012 Grammy Award for Best Blues Album alongside her other 10 bandmates in the Tedeschi Trucks Band for Revelator
Not much time to spend at home in her bedroom baiting YouTube viewers with her titties. Know what I'm sayin'?
This comment has nothing to do with Susan T. I have about as much respect for the "Grammies" as I do Kanye West.
